: Quick Q: Size of EGR Flange Nut?
narcotix 03-16-2004, 06:25 PM Gotta replace the EGR valve on the 94 and i don't want to strip the hell out of the nut holding the tube from the exhaust maniforl to the EGR.
What is the metric size of that flange nut on the EGR body?
Thanks!
Jimmy
vladha 03-16-2004, 09:54 PM 24mm... tough as heck to get off, use lots of pb blaster over a course of days, then give it a shot.
It also helps to remove a lot of the "stuff" from that area to give you more elbow room, ie. distributor, AIV, PAIR, and fan blades. After all that, I still couldn't get mine off... wrench kept slipping off. I'm currently trying to find a 24mm flarenut wrench so it won't slip off next time.
Peace,
Mark
narcotix 03-17-2004, 02:36 AM Thanks a bunch! I've got to go visit my tool man for a good wrench, and maybe heat that sucker up red hot.
If not, I'm going to disconnect it from the exhaust manifold, snake the thing out of the way, and attempt to remove it ona vise.
I dunno if flare nut wrenches get that big, but good luck to you as well.
ApacheXMD 03-17-2004, 04:22 AM I don't think you're gonna be able to get the whole pipe out with it still attached to the exhaust manifold.
I totaly wrecked the nut trying to get mine off, and ended up having to just cut it off and replace it with a used pipe from a forum member.

narcotix 03-17-2004, 04:26 PM OKay, got it done. Thanks for the wrench size! After unhooking the snorkel, taking off the throttle body, removed the EGRC-BPT valve (three way vacuum hose junction with diaphragm), removed the bracket that held the EGRC-BPT valve (2 10mm bolts - hard to get at witout a small universal socket and extension), I could finally get all the access I want to my EGR valve.
I soaked the fitting in AeroKroil (good penetrating lubricant), waited a few minutes, heated it up with my propane torch, and it came off smooth as butter.
Off comes the EGR, stuck fully open BTW, and I douse the thing in CRC Carb Cleaner. After a few minutes of tuggin and pulling, it becomes unstuck and the valve operates...but is a little stick on its action no matter how much carb cleaner I run through it.
I manage to snake the EGR to exhaust manifold tube out of by taking out the three bolts that hold the oil separator in place and swining it out of the way (black box to the right of the exahust manifold, in front of the distributor). The tube snakes out with some creative twisting and I can now clean the inside of that pretty easily.
Never fear, since I got another EGR valve and gasket on the way. Should be here tomorrow!
So with crossed fingers, my shitty idle will go away.
Thanks again,
Jimmy
narcotix 03-17-2004, 07:45 PM BTW the manifold to EGR tube fitting size is 24mm. The fitting on the EGR valve itself is 30mm.
Just found that out as I have it apart.
vladha 03-17-2004, 08:07 PM Ooops, sorry, Jimmy. I was thinking of the opposite end... that's the end that's given me so much trouble. Glad you got it figured out, anyway.
Peace,
Mark

Oh man, too bad. I have a cherry EGR valve
off my '92 you could have had far more reasonable
than a brand new one. You'd still need a gasket,
but the valve would be around half the dealer price
and it's got about 10k on it.
Just get rid of the EGR valve!
:)
