Hi,

Last night I relocated my battery into the hatch of my 1991 NX2000. The original negative cable I grounded. The kit I purchased was from Summit Racing. The new positive cable I connected to the old to give the starter, alternator, ect. I also obviously grounded the new negative cable in the back. After mounting everything, I connected the positive cable to the battery. Some clicking noises occured from my engine bay. When I checked it, I could smell a wierd smell. I probably did not help the situation when I was tightening down the battery cables to the battery and the ratchet sliped and touched both positive and negative sides and sparks flew! My problem is that my car won't start! When I turn the key to turn on the radio everything is dead! But the battery has juice! When I put the clutch in and start it, a winding sound occurs (the starter motor?) but it will not start. Will not even try to turn over. Nothing electrical in my car works. But the headlights do! I don't believe it is the alternator becuase my car would start but would not last long. Did I blow a fuse? Fry the starter? Please help! I'm stranded and cannot move! Any help would be great!

dead! It took a charge and is juiced up. I also reinforced the connection on the positive side and made it stronger. Now the car starts. ALthough it had difficulty. It idled really crappily and then shut off. Now when I start it I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from dying. My horn and headlights work but that is it! My guages don't work, no heat or a/c, no dome light, and no brake lights work...I checked all the fuses in the kick panel and they are all good. There are 3 fuse boxes under the hood. ON the belt side, there is a giant fuse (or relay) for the horn. I'm sure it works since the horn honks. Then there is a fuse boxes that was connected to my battery. It hold something like six gaints fuses or relays. I replaced the green one (marked "pump") becuase it was vibrating, making noises, and failed a continuity check. That did not help anything. There is another fuse box right over my wheel well. It has fuses (all good), relays, and these fuses with windows. I checked the ones with windows and they looked good, but I wasn't sure what I was looking for. Also, there are relays in the kickpanel next to the fuses but behind some of the dash board. I haven't checked those. Any help here to get my car running normally again woul dbe greatly appreciated!!!

Update on my car-
It runs! When I start it it works. However, I have to rev the engine to 3000rpm to get all the electrical systems to work and then I'm fine (until I turn off the car and have to do it again). A couple days ago, I'd start my car and then it would immediately die. Originally my positive cable had lots of slack so I cut 5 feet off. Now when I start it, the car idles well and doesn't shut off. My positive cable now is 2 guage at 15 feet in length. My question is: Do you think I need to replace my 15 feet of 2 guage postive wire with the same length of 1 guage? OR do you think I need a bigger battery that will crank out more amps? Or possibly both? Let me know. Thanks!

i thought 2 gauge is sufficient for the battery relocation. Have you checked your ground from the alternator? The battery should only be used to start the car. The alternator should take care of the electronics once you have the car running. Have your alternator checked out.

I used 2 gauge for mine and have no problems at all. Some people even use little 4 gauge wire and although I don't reccomend it they have no problems either. It sounds like you have another problem altogether. I would go over the wires on the alternator like BruHaHa said above. I had an issue with that on my SE-R before and had to do with the alt wiring. Does the car seem to run rich? Mine would pour out black smoke when it had the problem.

It did run rich when I first started it. I let it run and now its fine. (Could the relay marked "fuel" have anything to do with it. It is green in color. I replaced it anyhow and don't have the problem....anymore...
