History: I've got a 91 classic with 200,000+ miles on it. I'm getting ready to put a new tranny in her (5th gear popout). I just ordered a clutch value kit and new axle seals. I was thinking about what else I should do while in there when I thought about motor mounts.

Right now when I'm driving down the freeway my shifter vibrates (I have a new slop fix kit in there). Also when I gas it it moves a good 1-2 inches. Could that be a sign my motor mounts are going? I'll be at the rear motor mount putting the tranny in. Should I change it? Right now I'm stock with the jdm motor, I really don't see putting to much into the car. Thoughts?

Don't worry, it's most likely your tranny mounts. Replace those and your motor mounts if you haven't already. You should probably replace your shifter bushings as well. That should take care of that problem. Mine does the same thing as yours. :D

Ok I've done the shifter bushings my shifter is still very sloppy. I'm hoping that my new tranny will cure the slop. So tranny mounts huh? Got recommendations? Time to go search.

Ok it looks like I'll put some Lighteningmotorsports motor mounts in there kit #14-1901 Does that include tranny mounts? How many mounts are there on the tranny? I tried calling them but got the answering machine. Bummer...

Oh one more question. 97 tranny in a 91, I use a 91 axle right? I have a torn boot and need to replace the axle.

Btw... I like talking to myself can you tell? Hehe...

I have the B&M short shifter on my b13 and i have some of the same problems. its like the base of the shifter moves and feels loose. Ive been wanted to fix it but dont know how to solve the problem. I checked the shift stabalizer bar because i know the base of the shifter is connected to that, but thats not loose or anything.

I know on mine if I go directly to the tranny I can wiggle the little arm there. I figure my tranny is screwed. Which... I already knew. :P

It is probably your B&M shifter. Mine has up and down play and rattles. I called B&M and they don't want to do anything about it, so I will have to tear it apart one of these days and fix it myself.

I replaced all four motor mounts with OEM ones and my shifter still moves. I need to install a new shifter bushing and double check that the mounts are seated properly. The moving shifter is getting to be annoying.

well i just called up B&M and the guy i talked to was a major dick. he didnt even try to give me any suggestions about anything besides "well u should go look at it again and make sure everythings tight." i was like, um alright so theres nothing i can do about this? lol whatever i guess ill have to get around to getting under my car again and looking over all the stuff. my brother put a b&m in his (the white one) and his works great...

so whats the best bet to cure the shifter wobble? i assume my mounts are not as badas some of your sense my shifter doesnt wobble very much,,, i was considering just installing my ES motor & tranny mounts or getting new ones and go the ES in the new ones.. place racing mounts also crossed my mind, but i already have the ES ones,,, i dont wanna waste my time if its not going to help or be worth it

dont get the ES inserts, they are crap, plus you have to have stock mounts in good condition. get prothane mounts. i believe there is a group buy about to start.

yeah, with ES you have to reuse your stock tranny mounts. I got some but they didn't fit. I might have ordered the wrong part. The prothane one is good but very stiff and you'll have some massaging vibration at idle. But it will almost eliminate shifter bob under accel/deceleration. Get some torque mounts and some shifter bushings. That will do the trick.

Oh I looked under my car today. The bushing is shot right where then shifter linkage links to the tranny.
