: JDM DE install, now smoke????

Spend the entire weekend swapping my usdm to a jdm, most of it was swapping old parts to the new motor (read my post in the buyer/seller experiences to see why...soko is involved) and at 1am on sunday, finally got the motor cranked over. No axles, just the motor. Got tired and didnt feel like putting it all back together. Started it up and it died. Oops, no MAF sensor  Plugged that in and it stayed on, ideld good, but it smoked a lot. Some came out of the exhaust mani to dp (might be a minor leak) and most out of the exhaust. Now, it was cold outside, so that might make it look worse then it really was, but the smoke was pouring out of the dp area. It was white smoke, which to me doesnt make sense seeing that we were in a hurry to try and get it started, we just put oil in it and no coolant for the time being. didnt plan on having the car running for long, so it wasnt needed. Anyway, the smoke is white like I said, which makes no sense?? White smoke = water/coolant so...any suggestions?

I called soko and asked them if perhaps they put something in the motors to help preserve them since they would be in storage, and they said yes. They said it might smoke a little bit, but this isnt a little bit of smoke...anyone have any ideas on what to check for?? Later this evening we're going to be putting it completely back together and hopefully take it out for a drive, so maybe itll clear up, until then, help??

finish the install and see what happens. there could be many unknown reasons for white smoke untill you finish it

Mine did that after having it up for a month doing the manual->auto conversion.
After a warm-up and drive around the block (and oil change for good measure) it cleared up, no problem.

I just started my jdm on friday and mine had smoke coming out of the oil cap, alittle frightening at first. It will get better as you go, atleast mine did.

Could it be smoke from your greasy hands, oil spills?

That stuff will burn for the first 10-15 minutes or so.

Like the others said, run it for a few mins. And it should go away. Make sure your valve cover gasket is good. So there is no leaks. You should have good success. Later.

When i put my JDM in that i got from soko it burned like crazy. Im bummed cause that motor just got rod knock. I may be getting another motor from andreas or jgy i think that coating is killar.
