: Oil In Cylinder................
MajorLeagueRacr 05-16-2004, 11:33 PM well shes done for..... i have oil in one of the cylinders & on the plug and want not. So i would guess its the rings, does anyone know a good place to send it, does the motor need to be removed, and if im going to change the rings i want to get better internals (all around) can anyone tell me the best place for internals or what to get and for the installation a good place, and port and polish.....ect. if im going to do it i want done up, and can this motor be stroked, what are my options.
one day it will live again.

Why waste the money and time when NA SR's can be had for $400 all day long with a 6 mo warranty and DET blocks $800. You are going to have to pull that motor(easy way) to fix the problem you have now. Exactly what type of setup do you have?
goneturbo 05-17-2004, 12:30 AM someone else recently had the same problem. They noticed the oil when they were changing the spark plugs. The oil acutally comes from the valve cover leaking into the spark plug seats. then when you take out the plugs the oil gets on the bottom of the spark plug. the fix is to change the 4 rings than hold the oil out of the plug holes. You may have a different problem, and i would recomend getting a used motor rather than rebuiding....
MajorLeagueRacr 05-17-2004, 12:52 AM i have a gti-r in a 93 sentra with; walbro, cobra mass, top mount, jwt ecu, 2.5" dp 3" the rest of the way, manual boost controller.
so anyway $800 for what exatly

DET block!
I also thought about the O rings gaskets under the valve cover. Buddy of mine had the same problem. Changed them and everything was all good. I would definately change those first, then go from there.
MajorLeagueRacr 05-17-2004, 12:58 AM just the block and no internals? i cant do that part know anyone good
JGsnismoser 05-17-2004, 12:59 AM Are you sure is the rings? is your car smoking? feels weak?
MajorLeagueRacr 05-17-2004, 01:25 AM it putts almost like missing a cylinder all the way up and there is some white smoke the more i rev the more smoke, not thick smoke but there.
sakerocket1 05-17-2004, 01:45 AM do a compression test and check to see if the oil is coming from the VC
MajorLeagueRacr 05-17-2004, 03:23 PM i dont want another stock internals block, i want performance pistons, rings, connecting rods,....ect. who does good engine work????
goneturbo 05-17-2004, 03:57 PM I think we are trying to determine if your stock gti-r block is even messed up. Are the psiton rings or the valve cover rings the problem? since you didn't list any improvements or upgrades to the engine other than a MBC, we can only assume that you have a basically stock engine probably boosting 10-12psi. We are recomending that all you need is a stock block especially if it is a GTI-R. It can handle your mods. If you are bent on upgrading the block I can list a couple of shops in cali, how much money are you looking to spend, pistons, rods, and rings is not much of an upgrade. Ported and pollished, gets more expensive and is this a race or street engine? stroked? I think the all motor guys go this route, turbo is a different ball game, I think the stock setup with possibly an upgraded head gasket would be a better option.
MajorLeagueRacr 05-17-2004, 06:41 PM Ok, im going to pressure test the cylinders now, but yea basicly stock manual boost, walbro, cobra mass 2.5" to a 3" exaust. the thing is if i have to pull this block why not change what i can internally, as for port job and want not i can just take off the head, and send it out later on down the road. but i was running 15lbs, with race fuel to see what she had but i left it over night and when i was driving it in the morning getting on the parkway i got on it and it went to like 18 or more spike, my boost controller is far from my turbo(i heard this isnt a good idea, so now i changed it) and i havent checked for vac. leaks by the boost controller. its my own falt for pushing it so much, but if its the rings, i'd want my next block with stronger ones, it how ive allways done it. and about this turbo being a differennt ball game, whan should i be looking to do with the motor
MajorLeagueRacr 05-17-2004, 07:03 PM no pressure in cylinder 1.....rings? well plz let me know the reasonable (price) places that do good work(solid) and the higher priced places too, please.
MajorLeagueRacr 05-13-2005, 11:10 PM Well, its been a while, but my other projects took a lot of my time and money, but i figured it was time to put some attention back into my sentra, and for anyone interested in the what really went wrong with my GTi-R motor. it was'nt the rings, the head gasket, or o-rings, it was the rocker arm, it split in half on the intake side. i assume this happens from over-reving (valve float or something?), well just wanted to finish this post so if someone runs into a similar problem they'll know another thing it could be. oh and if your intake valves dont open in one cylinder would it cause other damage to the motor. i drove the car home with the problem, quite a ways.
thanx,
tim
SR20Turbofreak 05-13-2005, 11:50 PM yes, that happens with over revving, the valves float and the rockers stay down, the engine turns over and when the cam lobe is down to open the valve, the springs are coming back up and the rocker hits dead center on the cam lobe. I had a similar problem about 3 months ago. if it just broke the rocker arm and you can find she shims you should be ok with just replacing it. also it soulds like you bent a valve because you have no cylinder pressure.
