: Convention '05 should be in Florida!
El Gabito 05-24-2004, 09:25 PM I third chicago. How many SERCA members are up there and who will organize it?
edit: I nominated Indianapolis on the se-r mailing list, but I got shot down. Primarily because IRP is expen$ive and kinda rough. I thought it'd be cool to have it in the infield at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but was told that wouldn't happen either.
trance34 05-24-2004, 09:28 PM I have started the proposal for a Chicago convention.
Pretty White 05-24-2004, 10:10 PM NY? I smell Limerock or E-Town roadrace track?
nizzan4u2nv 05-24-2004, 10:56 PM If its in florida and I go, ill win farthest drive haha.
Roll-Mod-L 05-24-2004, 11:11 PM The Florida attendence in Alabama was utterly pathetic. That was the closest one ever held to them and they didn't even bother to show up. I think we need to see a lot more effort on their part before we could rely on them to plan a convention.
I agree. I drove all the way down from NY with Team Serious. Fl is alot closer and I dont think more than 5 cars came. I dont understand why because the South FL meet in Dec of that same year was huge. The same people that planned the South Fl meet should plan the convention.

I agree Matt. I was trying to be nice with my responses. One thing everyone has to realize, is you have to have a group of people who are stupid enough, and willing to organzie this. I figured it would be easy. Nope, try again. I was so busy, I missed half the convention. I think we have maybe 2 members in FL. From the looks of things, only the Texas region (Tornado Alley), and made any mention of hosting for next year.
JustinP10 05-24-2004, 11:45 PM Chicago would be cool, as it's something different. I'd have to fly out for that one... Not having my car at the Convention makes me sad :(
I'd probably attempt the drive if it's in Texas... it'd be cool to split a multi-car trailer for the drive there and back :D
If the Chicago guys can get something lined up in the next month or two, i'm sure that'd be acceptable, otherwise we'll probalby turn to the Texas region again for the Convention?
unlucky 05-25-2004, 03:42 AM How about Louisiana? We have a badass drag strip and 1.8 mile road course here. it's only 4 years old too! There's plenty of room, parking, bathrooms, BBQ pits, and a bar at the end of the track. It's also very close to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. About 35 minutes from Baton Rouge (which is home of LSU and party central), and about an hour from New Orleans. I am friends with the owners of the track, so I could get us a track day there for a reasonable amount of money. Also, there's a few big SE-R guys around town that would probably be more than willing to help set it up. Here's a pic of the track..

I like Chicago. I also like Louisiana.
Ultimately it will come down to where a group of members get together to volunteer to make it happen.
sr20boston 05-25-2004, 11:06 AM Everyone wants it locally. No matter where it is, I'll go. Chicago, I'll drive. New Orleans, I'll fly. I'm looking into having one up here. We've got all the convention staples (track, dyno, drag strip) in pretty close proximity- and near Boston to boot. We'll see what happens.

Chicago 700 miles
Louisiana 1300 miles
Houston 1500 miles
I think I would tow to all of the above.
choaderboy2 05-25-2004, 12:43 PM I vote for Texas. Its in the center of the country even if the freeways are stupid, its humid and has tornados.
That way I'll be able to bring my cars up. It was so fun driving my own cars instead of piece of crap rentals for the track day.

PA and LA are the same distance form Houston.
evilsr20degg 05-25-2004, 02:08 PM im down for lousiana....we could go eat at emerils restuarant.....oh theres my cookin side again.
david 05-25-2004, 02:16 PM The decision isn't up the masses. It is up to the SERCA council who put this event on every year. Just saying you want it somewhere doesn't bring it there.
If you are serious about running an event in your area you should write a proposal and present it to the SERCA council.
The propasal should show where each event will be held (track day, picnic, hotel, any thing else planned), cost breakout for the track event with track insurance(plus any extra costs emt, corner workers), possible days the track would be open for us, and finally showing you have enough help from other members to plan everything as trying to do everything yourself is nerve racking.

We're SE-R people, we are too cheap to eat at a place like that.
