OK, I'd love to go to either. You put up the track money, OK? :)

The decision isn't up the masses. It is up to the SERCA council who put this event on every year. Just saying you want it somewhere doesn't bring it there.

If you are serious about running an event in your area you should write a proposal and present it to the SERCA council.

The propasal should show where each event will be held (track day, picnic, hotel, any thing else planned), cost breakout for the track event with track insurance(plus any extra costs emt, corner workers), possible days the track would be open for us, and finally showing you have enough help from other members to plan everything as trying to do everything yourself is nerve racking.

I beg to differ David. It goes where people volunteer to have it. So far we've been pretty good about having only one or two regions willing to host each year and the community has been good about supporting it and more or less deciding where they would like to go if there is a conflict.

I know I may regret this, but if a lot of people want to come to Texas next year, I may do a little recon to see who may be willing to help. Bruce, Grover, and I don't have the time we did in 2000 to drive it through, not to ignore the wonderful help of others who made it happen.

Our group has splintered somewhat since Bruce and I started racing with Grover (Bruce has been Crew Chief to date). But, I will see if we can get some folks motivated. It was fun putting it on and I think we all have finally recovered. :)

Motorsports Ranch is still the likely track, although there is another Motorsports Ranch under construction outside Houston. I'm sure we would NOT have the same lame situation at the track we had last time. The GM there was fired after our event because he screwed us up so much and had also screwed up other's events. We could also possibly go to Oklahoma to Hallett. That's about 3 hours north of Dallas.

OK is pretty central too, but I don't know how many members are there... I know there are a few...

I think Chicago would be a great location! ;)

I believe Chicago will be great as well to host the next convention. However, we lack of tracks where we can host the driving school. The nearest track that I can suggest will be Gingerman. I will not recommend Blackhawk farm due to lack of "run offs" plus the run offs that they have there are solid BRICKS!!!! Not good for novice. I have yet to be at Road America (Wisconsin) so I cannot make comments at this time.

I can research on this a little more... I don't know what the deal is for Chicago Speedway and Joliet Speedway.

I will volunteer 95% of my time if we do decide to have it here at Chicago.

I agree. The only problem being LRp costs $15,000 for one day.

If you would have been to this years convention. WUSS ;) I still love ya. You would have Known that Bruce was already talking about it. He even suggeted TWS. The entry fee would be a little more but it be much more of a track.

I agree. I drove all the way down from NY with Team Serious. Fl is alot closer and I dont think more than 5 cars came. I dont understand why because the South FL meet in Dec of that same year was huge. The same people that planned the South Fl meet should plan the convention.

The only FL ppl last year was Russell(Red B14), Andy R (yellow b13, traliered), and Mark (white b13), and myself. The problem with FL ppl is they do alot of talking, which is fine, but when it actually comes down to it, no one comes. Last year there were supposed to be tons of people caravaning from FL, and I ended up being the only one from the east coast. I highly doubt FL could host a convention for a long while.

I put a proposal together and sent it to Kieran(spelling?) the other day, to have it hosted in Baton Rouge, LA. I included details for hotel accomodations, track day, dyno day, and the BBQ/car show.

I'd be happy to attend one in the BR, LA area. I know there are some folks there who are active in the SR community if somewhat less so on-line lately. Since that is the same region as TX I'm sure we can get some folks to help if necessary.

On the TX front, we already have 6 volunteers, the minimum necessary for me to coordinate one, so we are moving forward as well. I'll be looking into tracks soon. Motorsports Ranch still owes us a favor. We'll see if they remember. TWS is also a possibility and we're going to inquire with the TX Z club about sharing the track with us, perhaps taking Sunday with us taking Saturday.

Yeah Motorsports ranch still owes me a couple of sessions from that convention! Haha. Seeing all this talk about the convention next year is really exciting especially this early and especially when it sorta FEELS like our community was kind of dying a little.

Michelle must ask me once a day if it's going to be in Texas or if its been decided, wherever else....:)

We can't wait to go again. Lousiana and Texas would be nice because we could drive the car out.

Wow. If I just had a nickel for EVERY TIME you use that same lame-ass answer over the years in reply to someone’s reply in a “where should the convention be held” thread either here or on the mailing list I would have more than enough $ for a turbo kit by now…. Did my reply, in any way, anywhere, say I would be willing to host it? No. I was just stating how I feel. And maybe, just maybe, if enough people say “a Northeast convention works for me” or something akin to that, someone (not saying it would/wouldn’t be me) would be willing to host it.

LimeRock is a great place to have the road course section of the Convention. If the SERCA members decide on having the convention in the Northeast, I will be willing to volunteer to help organize the weekend!!!!! If not in the Northeast then I will try to be there with one of the cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!
