A central location would let a lot of people experience a convention and be able to drive their own cars. It's easy to say when you're not doing the work, but I'm all for the Texas crew or someone in the mid-south hosting.

I've heard that's a nice track.. If it's in Dallas or the track site is Hallett I'll go
Hallett (http://www.hallettracing.com) is great, and I think this crowd would love it. One Lap of America keeps coming back for a reason. In fact, I'll be lapping there next weekend.

Tulsa would be a mecca motorsports-wise (nevermind it's fairly unappealing otherwise). By this winter, Tulsa Raceway Park will have its road course complete, a 2.3 mile affair that's completely separate from the drag strip (unlike the old Heartland Park Topeka). Its completely refurbished quarter mile just got completed and opened this weekend, and the owner is laying a 400x1000' parking pad suitable for autocrosses.

Two road courses half an hour from each other, plus freshly concreted drags and autocrosses. The convention probably wouldn't come here, but I'm still going to be a happy camper. :D

LimeRock is a great place to have the road course section of the Convention. If the SERCA members decide on having the convention in the Northeast, I will be willing to volunteer to help organize the weekend!!!!! If not in the Northeast then I will try to be there with one of the cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES!!! :D :D

Wow. If I just had a nickel for EVERY TIME you use that same lame-ass answer over the years in reply to someone’s reply in a “where should the convention be held” thread either here or on the mailing list I would have more than enough $ for a turbo kit by now…. Did my reply, in any way, anywhere, say I would be willing to host it? No. I was just stating how I feel. And maybe, just maybe, if enough people say “a Northeast convention works for me” or something akin to that, someone (not saying it would/wouldn’t be me) would be willing to host it.

LOL! Who is the lame-ass? Stop whining about where you want it to be held. If you want it held somewhere, DO something about it. We don't care how you feel. Yeah, maybe if enough of us whine enough, someone will take pity and make it happen so we can be lazy and just show up.

BTW, there is a person or group trying to get it held in New England. I've already told the person I've talked with that I'd be happy to bow out and just show if they can make it happen. You won't see me whining about it.

Ha ha ha!!! You are so lame.
I never said that I absolutely would NOT help organize it. Put your ant burning glasses back on and READ MY POST AGAIN.

Also, I highly doubt that no one here cares how I feel. Since when is posting how you feel about something considered “whining”? This board would basically have no existence if it weren’t for people posting their thoughts. Oh wait, I mean whining their thoughts according to you. Guess we all can’t be as ultra kewl as you dude.

BTW you have a few more “whiners” in this thread to go after….get ‘em boy get ‘em..grrrrrrrr!!!!

Ok, I'm from Florida, and yeah only a handful of people showed up at the '03 convention and even less from the '04 convention.

Now, even though I'm embarrassed by the lack of SERCA support in Florida... the bashing needs to stop, period. There are a ton of Nissan owners in Florida, and they have a ton of regular and semi-regular events(especially in S. FL). The amount of people who show up to these events would put in SERCA convention to shame.

For whatever reason, even though they obviously support the Nissan community, they do not support the SERCA community... c'est la vie. IMO, part of the reason is the lack of "trackers"... people who spend time tuning and running their cars on the track. However, they spend an inordinate amount of time tuning and running their cars on the 1/4 mile straights... go figure. Another possible problem is their percieved attitude of SERCA... that it's a bit "elitist", not my opinion by the way. Ask anyone who has ever tried to start a chapter in Florida.

So, in short, the SERCA convention should not and probably will never be held in Florida... not enough involvement from Nissan owners. But, they do support the Nissan community.

Please stop the Florida bashing. It just provides another reason or fuel on the fire for possible members not to join SERCA.

Peace,
Mark

I don't care how you feel either. Organize it or shut the f*ck up. You're trying to make a point to people that HAVE organized conventions in the past. You have no idea what you speak of.

Blah, blah, blah.....
Why would I want to stay on this? What do I need to finish? I said what I needed to say. If you JUST can't get enough of this, then feel free to read my posts over and over again and get your rocks off that way. It's not my goal here to off topic this thread anymore then it has been. Remember, you jumped into my conversation with someone else, I never ask you to. However, this is a public forum so I guess you can do that and say what you want to, right?
If you want to keep being an e-tHuG yo, then go for it. If you want to keep "this" going feel free to PM me. Other than that, I don't care what else you think or have to say here.

How the heck do you know thatr a Florida event would put the SERCA convention to shame, have you even been to one?

Elitist? You are talking lowly Sentra shitbox owners here, not Porshes.

Please read my comment again, Mike. The AMOUNT of people that go to some of the Florida events... blah blah blah. I was one of the few FL people who went to the '03 SERCA convention... great fun, wish I had tracked my car, though.

"Elitist? You are talking lowly Sentra shitbox owners here, not Porshes."

Just an attitude taken by some SERCA members in the past. An old old thread pretty much dressed down Florida owners in public... left some hard feelings. This isn't how I feel or even my opinion about SERCA, but one that has been expressed to me more times than I can count. Supposedly, if you're not involved in SERCA, you're not part of the "real" community.

In the future, I'll be a bit more clear in my statements/comments... that way there will be less possibility of confusion.

Peace,
Mark

You mean BMWs. You'd like the 944 guys. They are just like the SE-R guys. Seriously. But the BMW guys.... Except for a few, they are mostly riceboys with money and a lot have serious attitude.

Kieran has set a deadline:

Those who are interested in hosting or helping to host the convention next year should put together a formal proposal. I've received one so far and it is pretty impressive. I'd like to see a proposal with a preliminary schedule of events, location, track information, hotel information, etc. The more information, the better. Also important is people willing to work on the convention. In 2001, it was primarily Ray Kawski and myself (with some minor input from others who know who they are and were recognized at the time) and I spent the 4 months prior to the convention at work spending 25-30 hours working on the convention and the remaining 15-25 working on work. If work only knew! I was lucky enough to be early enough in my career to get away with it. Never again will (or could) that happen! ;( We need dedicated individuals and need that to show.

I hear some folks in the northeast are interested (and have had contact with me) as well as some folks in the southeast (and I have a proposal). I've also heard rumors of Texas and Chicago. We'll probably discuss the 2005 convention at the next mIRC meeting and then announce a public session after that at which everyone will be invited to speak up. Hopefully by July 1 or so we can have a vote on the council level of where the next convention should be after evaluating all of the proposals. So start working on those proposals!!!

Well I can speak for alot of Florida Forum members when I say that We're just not really into driving 2 days to a SERCA convention. I can agree that we do have alot of Nissan Supporters here in Florida but most are not into the online/forum/organizations. I can name handfulls of people that are in South Florida alone that are die hard SR20/Nissan fans that have some of the sickest rides and all these people know nothing about SERCA or the SR20FORUM. Having an Event like this In Florida might just the key to show alot of these people what SERCA is and What is has to offer. I have never attended a Convention before and the main reason for that is the shear distance. I would have attended the Alabama event but it happen to fall on a hectic weekend. Mario (SR20 B12), Rob (SE-Rican) and all the others that planned the Nissan BBQ this past winter here in So. Fla. did a great job organizing that meeting. People All throughout florida came and we recorded about 300+ nissans showed up that day to hang out and have fun at a BBQ. Prizes were giving out with the raffle that took place. Besides all that, who wouldn't want to spend a weekend in Florida?! South Florida at that. If the convention was in Miami it would be a hell of a vacation for everyone, not to mention a great spot for some racing done at West Palm Beach (Moroso Speedway). Great weather, Nice Beaches, Beautiful Women, and Sick Cars...now thats a combination. Just my .02 cents.

P.S.- This was what the real topic is about. FLORIDA!! lol

1) Florida guys have been unwilling to support SERCA since Day One. I know because I was there. They had no willingness to gamble on the club; if there wasn't a gauranteed return of sort, they weren't interested. I think that attitude may be changing, though. I was highly impressed by the Florida guys (Justin, et al) who drove out to SoCal. It was great seeing you boys. And Justin, that squirrel at NNA was a runt compared to the gray squirrels Peter and I saw up on the Angeles Crest Highway.

2) Wishes don't make Conventions happen. Commitment does. If y'all REALLY want to have one in Indy using IRP, you'll make it happen and we'll show up. Gotta have a race track, though. Many ARE ready to drive two days; I did it towing my car to SoCal. I'll do it to IRP or Chicago or Loudon or whereever. Anyone who won't is just a pansy (insert obligatory smilie face of your choice).

3) Chicago and Northeast have first crack at getting the '05 Convention going, but they need to get a track commitment FAST. If J.P. isn't set by July 1st, I promised to get Texas rolling.

4) All these talkers carrying on about Lime Rock and Road Atlanta seem to forget the expense of those tracks and the fact they're booked solid five years into the future. $15 grand per day?!?!? I don't think so. TWS is a bit expensive at $6,500 and that doesn't include corner workers. Left Coasters are blessed with inexpensive track days just due to the money available and rather high number of tracks out there. Texas has TWS, MSR and Hallett at this point. I wasn't aware of a track in Louisiana. There are three planned in the Houston area and one west of Dallas/Ft. Worth but none will be ready for '05. Sorry, but autocross just won't cut the mustard.

5) Proposals? I find it incredible we've reached a position where the club has too many regions wanting to host a Convention. Hooray!

I for one did not make it to Alabama because my car was down. I really wanted to go but, I just could not make it. I for one would love to help organize the Convention if it were held in FL. I helped organize all the SOFLA Nissan meets. We are hosting our 4th annual meet this up comming Nov. We had over 300 cars attend. Largest meet by far i think. If I can get a group of people interested in helping I will take the ball and run with it.

We have alot of options down here. We have a local track (Moroso) that has a drag strip and a road course. Last year we also had a big Nissan dealer (Palm Beach Nissan) that attended our Nissan meet. They were very thrilled with the thought of a yearly meet. They even offered to sponsor the meet this year. They are a resource that we can use aswell. I think FL would be a good thing. The weather is near perfect and the SE-R crowd we have is amazing. I guarantee one hell of a turnout!!

Ps. You all can also see SOFLA's finest SE-R's ;)

I think there are far more enthusiasts that are not members of SERCA than are. I personally am not, because I have seen no point in it. I go to the website and look at my region (Great Lakes). It talks about the next convention coming up! Oh wait... that's the 2001 convention... Maybe if the site were properly mantained and if the club were better organized it would get more recognition. The club needs to model itself after some of the highly successful clubs such as the Good Guys. It also says that it only allows SR20 powered vehicles to be included... why not include the B15 SE-R's and future SE-R's as well?
