it's starts like it's going to but wont run. any thoughts? i have fuel and spark but, the only way to keep it running is to spray carb cleaner in the tb.

It's only a guess, but if you can start it by spraying carb cleaner into the TB then you've got a clogged fuel line or a valve or something (never been good with fuel systems personally so forgive me) that's not delivering the fuel it needs to start the engine. I had the same problem on a lawnmower a couple of weeks ago (no, it's not a SR20 powered lawnmower but my god that sounds like a nifty project) and after disassembling the primitive carbeurator it turned out the fuel return valve was stuck closed due to some oil that had gotten kicked back into the intake system. Once it was cranked it had sufficient vacuum to open the valve but just trying to start it wasn't.

I doubt it's the exact same problem as my lawnmower was, but I bet you've got a similar fuel injection based problem you just need to seek out and clean or replace.

SOmething tells me you have the fuel lines on backwards.

lol, an sr20 powered lawn mower. The thought makes me want to giggle like school girl, heh.

well, its a new motor-built well, and tested in someone else car before i put it in, my car had this same problem before i swapped motors, do clogged fuel lines happen on our cars? could it have been getting worse, my car had been getting worse and worse.

im thinking the fuel pump might not be working. might check to see if you have fuel pressure and make sure you do have the fuel lines on the right way. in line goes to the line that goes around to the left side of the fuel rail and the return line goes to the line coming out of the regulator. the fuel goes through the injectors before it goes out the regulator. so first check to see if when you turn the key you hear the fuel pump come in and if so then check to see if its producing any pressure. just a start

the fuel pump turns on- (loud)... and the injectors spray when i pull the rail, the injectors don't seem to be leaking. carb cleaner is the only thing that gets the car started, i dont know how to check for furl pressure with the stock rail.

btw the fuel lines are correct-swapped em around before, same thing

hmm...if it was doing this before you swapped in the new motor then that quite possibly rules out the new motor, if it's the new motor then it would be an unlikely coincidence. More or less, it's not "priming" the intake right when you turn the key. I'd say it would be the ECU or the fuel pump (again, I'm not much on fuel delivery so I very easily could be missing something else).

maybe bad fuel. or is the fuel new. it could be something with the computer. but still look at fuel pressure. how well are the injectors spraying.

injectors spray great, and i put in two new gallons of fuel and some rubbing alcohol, how *** i check my fuel pressure, would an intake manifold leak cause the car to not start?

if you had a hose disconnected. check all of them to make sure. well if the injectors are spraying fine you probably have good fuel pressure. check all your sensors like your maf sensor and stuff like that. the maf would cause the car not to start up at all.

thats not true at all.. i can disconnect my maf and my car will start and idle.. if i raise the rpm above 3k then it goes crazy

Did I miss somthing? whats the rubbing alcohol for?

Try swapping mafs. Is the ecu throwing any codes?

rubbing alcohol is like stabil, for like moisture in ur gas tank. i think my harness must be fukt up or i blew up my ecu, but would an ecu go bad over time like that?, also i put in de ecu and a bb ecu, same shit.

also, i've never checked for codes, but since i just replaced the battery and the car hasnt actually run yet, it seems as though i prob wudnt have any codes?

i doubt it's ur ecu. sounds like ur fuel pump is bad. if i were ya id test the fuses and relays out first. i dont think ur getting enough fuel coz the only way to keep it runnin is with the carb spray. check the resistance of ur injectors also. just some things to look for.

will a fuel pump still sound like it's working but not be pushing the amount of fuel it's supposed to, anyone know what the resistance is supposed to be on the injector harness?
