Im in the process of replacing my rear speakers in the SE-R. I was wondering if it is necessary to remove the rear seat in order to take out the deck lid. Any hints or tips before I begin? As always, I appreciate the insight, mates!

Which car is it in? If it's a sentra, then I don't think you have to. It's only 3 plastic screws holding it down. Even if you have to take the seats out, it's damn easy. Once again if it's a sentra then the bottom part of the seat isn't bolted, it's just a lever you pull out. And then the back part is held on by two bolts at the bottom and a hook at the top. Undo the bolts and lift up.

definitly the classic SE-R. Thanks for the tips! Any way around all those white plastic pins?

I think you can squeeze them from the inside of the trunk and push them up once you have the carpeted deck cover removed. (those 3 plactic screws thats were just talked about.)

They suck. The best way is to do what you're suppose to. Use a small, as in short enough to fit between the deck and rear glass, flathead screw driver. Just unscrew them, they should come out some what easy.

Those three plastic screws are only 3/8ths of the story. There are five (IIRC) white plastic clips that are glued to the underside of the tray that also have to come loose. All are accessible from the trunk. Just shove the three "screws" up (they aren't threaded, they have ridges) and squeeze the other clips while you push up.

Removing the seat back isn't absolutely necessay but certainly helpful. Pull the two lanyards underneath the seat bottom to release it and take out of the car. There is a screw on each lower corner of the seat back. Once those are out, all that remains is to lift the seat back to release three clips grabbing the rear structure.

I can't count the times I said "fuck" while replacing the rear speakers. For one it's hot and humid in tx so sitting in my car wasn't the best. Those plasic clips where giving me the blues so I just pulled on the bitch and it popped off, after that it was all down hill. It's prolly not that bad if you don't live in tx. :)

i just installed mine - after the seats are out, the rest is pretty easy. push the small pins up with pliers from inside the trunk, and then unscrew the three big pins with a coin (i used a quarter).

Alright guys, im done. Thanks for the tips. I installed 6.5s Polk db650s all the way around. It sounds really good, especially considering the lack of depth to be had in the doors for larger magnents. Plays loud and clear with crisp highs and very good bass for a speaker of this size.I didnt have a whole lot of problems with the doors, though it would have been MUCH easier had I chosen 6 3/4 inch speakers or oversize 6.5s. The holes in the speakers do not line up with the factory holes, but that is nothing a self tapping screw and a drill wont cure. Just let it be known that our doors are NOT true 6.5 inch speakers, they are the larger 6 3/4 with about 2 inches of door depth. The rear speakers on the other hand were a nightmare. Once again I used the same Polk 6.5s. Depth fit fine, the problem was once again the speaker being too small for the larger opening, and holes lining up. I had to remove the basket off of some old 240SX speakers I had and set the Polk speaker inside the hole left by the removed basket on the 240 speaker. So, in effect I created a custom mounting bracket out of the old 240 speaker. So after about 5 hours of work, im finished. All the speakers are installed and im pretty pleased with the way they sound. Now, if I can just finish installing my CD player......it never ends =]
