: Climbing RPMs at WOT
sr20det808 07-20-2004, 02:52 PM I searched, but couldn't find what i was looking for. Sometimes when im in like 4th or 5th gear and i full throttle it, the rpm's just shoot up, but the car isn't going much faster. And suggestions. I got USDM sr20de, t25, 370s, bkr7e's gapped at .30, stock wires, fmic, jwt ecu. any suggestions on why it does this? Oh, and im running 11psi.. if that helps any
N13 Freak 07-20-2004, 02:55 PM Is the tach just showing the RPM's climbing or can you hear it too? If you actually *hear* the motor revving higher, your clutch could be slipping. Otherwise someone with some more knowledge of the tach. and how it gets it's signal is going to have to chime in.

xsypherx 07-20-2004, 02:57 PM if the rpm increases but the acceleration doesn't i would say clutch slip
200sxsr20de 07-20-2004, 03:00 PM Sounds like a clutch problem to me too.

Creagach 07-20-2004, 03:07 PM what clutch are you running?
tlSeR20DE 07-20-2004, 03:13 PM broke ur car again? :D nah, j/k..
what rpm are you at when you mash the gas?
sr20det808 07-20-2004, 03:22 PM Im been using the stock clutch ever since i got the car and turbo'd it. I could open throttle at a low rpm and when it hits about 5k, it climbs. and yes, i can actually hear the rpm's climb. I never experienced clutch slipping **, so maybe this is the prob?
b13bliss 07-20-2004, 03:23 PM I agree, if the tach suddenly rises, but not the speedo, then you are slipping the clutch. In colder weather, sometimes I would spin the tires on the freeway, but couldn't hear it, so I feared for the clutch, but I noticed the speedo would "jump" as well, so it was the tires, not the clutch. Could be that a clutch adjustment is all you need (or stickier tires.)

Clutch adjustment aint gonna help a slipping clutch.
NateSR20 07-20-2004, 03:58 PM That is definitely your clutch slipping. Not too big of a deal, just make sure you get one that can hold the power your putting down.
Nizmonik SE-R 07-20-2004, 04:04 PM Yea this is def. your clutch slipping! I once thought My ACT clutch was slipping when i floored it on 2nd gear......then i realized i was roasting my tires.......LOL

sr20det808 07-20-2004, 04:04 PM Im putting around 230 hp. Hows the exedy clutches? it's on ebay for 130.. am i wasting my time?
Nizmonik SE-R 07-20-2004, 04:18 PM Well those exedy clutches that go for $130 are OEM spec clutches, not high performance ones that can handle more than stock HP. Besides if you're gonna go thru the trouble of dropping the tranny, put something in there that you're gonna be able to leave in there for a while. I hear that clutchnet seems to be pretty good, I myself have a ACT Heavy Duty Pressure Plate with an organic street disk. Hope this helps!

drummer4lifex 07-20-2004, 04:24 PM I think the Clutchnet group buy is still going on... PM Goneturbo about details!
Are you sure you don't have the clutch cable too tight, that could cause it to slip.
tlSeR20DE 07-20-2004, 05:02 PM go with the clutchnet kyle.. i have it in mines and i love it.. pedal feel is good and it grabs good also..
killase-r 07-20-2004, 05:07 PM yea definatly a clutch slip problem I have a clutchnet as well i love it and just like nizmonik says if you are gonna do all that work mise well put something worth wile in there.

WickedSR20 07-20-2004, 09:04 PM Clutch is slipping. Happened to me without a turbo.
If you're gonna do a flywheel, it would be a great time to do that too.
Witt19 07-20-2004, 10:45 PM i'm surprised your stock clutch has lasted this long. My stock clutch was dead after only a week and a half of boost
sr20det808 07-20-2004, 11:17 PM ya.. the stock one is holding up pretty good for 49,000 miles n/a hard driving, and about 12,000 hard turbo driving.
