Gtir crank is totally differnt ot any other, the bearings are wider, I dont know about where you are, but there are heaps of gtirs here, and they are still hard to find in good condition 2nd hand.

the bearings are wider?? Than how is it you can run GTiR bearings on a DE block w/ a DE crank. I wouldnt think there is much difference from a DE and GTiR crank. The GTiR crank may be stronger as is everything else on a GTiR but I am pretty sure they can be interchanged.. The only thing I can see being different is the output end of the crank as the GTiR tranny has a larger input shaft, so that may cause issues trying to mate a DE tranny onto that crank. Thats the only fitment issue I can think of...

I guess what would be best is to know who's ran a GTiR crank and w/ what tranny and what block...

The gti-r bearings have extra oiling holes so the crank would have to be drillied in order for the gti-r bearings to work properly.

you say the crank would have to be drilled???
Dont you mean the block on the main bearing journal where it taps into the oil galleys?? :)

Ive never compared the two side by side, but some very knowledgeable people have told me they are very different, like 17mm on the de, and 19mm wide bearings on the gtir. I have one of each, so may measure them tommorow and see.

54C - 19mm Rod Bearings
53J - 17mm Rod Bearings

Bottom Line - If you use Crower or GTi-R Rods, use the 54C Bearings. If you use SE-R rods, use 53J Bearings.

54C - Main Bearings Have Extra Oil Holes.
53J - No oil holes.

Bottom Line - Use the 54C main bearings either was as they give better oiling.

54C - 17mm Flywheel Bolts
53J - 14mm Flywheel Bolts

Bottom Line, If you use a 54C Crank, you will need to enlarge SE-R Flywheel holes to fit the larger bolts.

54C vs. 53J use the same ratios as well.

FYI: On Shaggys 497 WHP 200SX w/GTi-R, he demolished the original crank when the thrust washers failed due to a screwup at the mashine shop. We took a 53J Crank, used 54C Mains and 54C Rods (Crower Rods). Machines brass screws into the block to hold the thrust washers in place. Never had problem and that was nearly 3.5 yrs ago.

Any other questions, feel free to ask me. You car also reference the library in the link in my sig.

Cheers!

Yes. You would run GTi-R Main Bearings. Depending on which rods you used would determine your rod bearings.

Chances of finding all of it. Price too, ................................... Thinking of building up my old motor. Just ripped it apart yesterday with my brother and friend. Good experience and fun time, but now wondering if I want to spend the money beefing it up.

All great info...but one more question. Are we talking all FWD motors here? Is there a difference between the FWD GTi-R's and the RWD (180sx) versions? I ask because I'm building up a US DE for a PL510 swap. I plan on just turning the whole thing sideways, but don't know if the blocks from the FWD to RWD are different. Any ideas?
