Where they better years for the trannys then others or when the 5th problem was fixed from the factory? I was talking with a friend and he said since my SE-R is a "93" I don't really need to worry about the popout problem since it was the earlier year(91-92) SE-R's. Is this true or is he just talking out poo-poo? I haven't driven my car since I bought it with a bad motor(rod knock) and never driven it out of first yet.

5th gear popout was not just a B13 specific problem. It's also happened to quite a few B14s too. So what I mean is that no one is really "safe" from the popout.

Really, I thought the B14 trannies had the popout condition corrected. From what I understand the reason the popout occurs is because the B13 tranny 5th gear synchro teeth were spaced too close together and the problem was solved by spacing them further apart. I got this info from someone at Nissan Motorsports.

Majority of 5th-gear pop-outs occur in '91 to '93 trannies. Nissan made a slight design change for 1994 that was supposed to prevent further occurances. Unfortunately, the condition can still afflict later model years but not nearly to the degree associated with the first three years.
