I've done a bunch of searches on this website but still can't find a cheap way to get more low end torque :( . I have most of the basic bolt on upgrades you can do:
1. AEM CAI
2. HS header
3. HKS exhaust

Car now goes like gang busters at 4k RPM's (fricken turboish) but no more low end and I'm killing my clutch.

Anyone know of any upgrades that aid low end torque. I know there's just so much you can do with 2000CC's (2 liter).

Underdrive pulleys work throughout the rev range. I don't know if it's a good idea to use them or not on the 2001 SR20DE, though. I believe it only has a 4 counterweight crank.

Although, I seem to remember a thread asking this question in the VE forum and there were several guys using the UR pulley set on their VE (which also has the 4 counterweight crank) so it might be OK.

many b15 se owners have the 2 peice UR pulley set with no problems. and yes, it will add power throughout the RPM band.

one of the better overall performance bolt ons that you can do.

Actually the sr20 is 1998cc :biggthump

I read somewhere you can mess with timing to get more low end torque.

It may also be possible to tune for more low end with adjustable cam gears - but I'm not really speaking from experience on that.

yea you can advance your timing it gives a nice push....

timing is a defintate pushon lower end. i played with it today and damn talk about a difference.

with stock cams and cam gears you'd most likely loose hp. plus the fact that you'd also have to dyno tune, doesn't make it a mod for everyone.

but with aftermarket cams, cam gears can be worth their weight in gold. or HP

^^he's right. the b15 SR20DE's have a 4counterweight crank, which can cause problems down the road if the whole bottom end isnt perfectly balanced when you add a lightweight pulley. the older engines *** (99->previous) had an 8counterweight crank, making them quite a bit more stable when adding a lightweight pulley.

Definitly do the timing advance. I got a bit better low end with that and it costs nothing, then maybe look into other options.

Throw in a higher final gear.

on your sig you said next will be a header?
so do some research and get the header with the most low end torque, i believe it was the HS gen2-3 that had the best low end, also the stillen has good low end too.
did you already get the hs header?
if so which one?

i've had the pulley for over 2 years now, second clutch and i as well as several others on b15.net and g20.net with roller motors have never had a problem ,but idon't want to jinx myself so i'll shut up

Thanks for all the great advice. for some reason I don't get emails with posts anymore or I would have checked sooner:

--Sounds like timing is the way to go. Yeah my SIG is old.

--already got HS gen5. great high end but didn't get much pre 3k RPM.

-- I'll look more into pulleys as well although it sounds like they can be unstable on the B15

--Actually I'm even looking at a spec V trade now so who knows. Lots of grunt on those. It's tough at 5500 feet above sea level to get much from a 4 CYC.

thanks all!

JWT cams and cam gears can give you some awesome low end gains...of course the top end will suffer.

catch 22 eh. that's cool

I really liked the fidanza flywheel when I had it, I think you'd get some more power to the transmission, easier to spin with the lighter weight.

its an na 4cyl, if you want power it needs to be at least above 3k rpm's. if you want low end you'd be better off with a spec v because it is a huge 4cyl. if you want power use lighter parts such as flywheel and pullies to get you up in the revs quicker

yeah that's what I'm reading. Been looking at charts all day and very few 4 cyc have torque or power above 3k. A 2.5 SPEC V or a altima SER might be up my alley. In the case of the altima it's a V6 :eek2:
