I would lean toward the -vet. Sure, turbos make great power, but I'm not much for the lag. I more of an instant gratification kinda guy :D
Where in NC are you?

a Det doesnt have much lag really......besides the det makes more torque and HP throughout the entire powerband when compared to the VE..... I think a Neo might run about 4K+ with the ECU (I dont think its commonly imported). I think det with everything would cost less than the VE alone and you would still have enough money left over to get some good suspension or possibly nice brakes.......
Just my opinion....

YOU must be kidding right?? LAG? come one once the turbo hits you won't even remember what lag is. Instant Gratification will never get you enough power. Just my .02 cents. Have you driven turbo charged cars? DRive one you will never want to go back to N/A

Well, if you're really financially equipped as your handle suggests you are, then why not go for the VE + turbo? You'd be different, as I only know of one car that's VE'd and f-maxed. JWT should have this down by now, but I'd envision your car spending some time at their site to handle some tuning issues.
A BB DET is most cost-effective if you keep it relatively stock, and you if push it to 14lbs of boost on the t25 (use race gas and lose your cat), you can top out the DET at about 240-250 whp which is enough to get you high 12s (or 11s if you live in Seattle ;)). But don't expect your turbo to last long.
Good luck!

Yep. Owned one and have driven a bunch. Keep in mind I autocross and autocrossing a turbo goes like this: coming out of a turn nail the gas and nothing, nothing, nothing, Oh Lord Jesus hang on!!!
The last turbo I autocrosed was a well modified Eclipse. Damn the lag. I understand that turbos keep getting better and better, so I dunno. I guess I need to drive a newer one now.
