: 17s on an NX
CBall22 11-15-2001, 06:44 PM I have 17inch rims on my NX currently with Pro-kits. they area 17x7 with a 40 offset. I noticed in the back that the tire is hella close to rubbing with the strut housing. Has anyone else noticed this? I believe that possibly lowering my car has caused the tire to angle in at the top making it closer than it should be. Should I get spacers or not worry about it? Also, I noticed a squeaking sound (sounds like rubber rubbing against something) whenever I apply my brakes. It's intermittent suggesting it occurs at a particular spot once every revolution. I don't believe its my brakes being warped. Also, if I coast to a stop without using my brakes, the sound doesn't occur. Anyone know the problem?
Thanks

To be honest with you, thats what happens when you buy rims from places that don't have fitment guides. If they were from somewhere like Tirerack or somewhere they would have told you if the offset would fit.
CBall22 11-15-2001, 07:53 PM Hey Ian, actually I did call a couple wheel places and they said it would fit so I felt comfortable with going with their word. And I don't think its rubbing cause I never heard anything. The sound however is coming from the front where theres still plenty of space between the wheel and the strut housing (about 2 fingers width, ie almost an inch). The sound is like squeaky rubber, but I could be wrong and it could be something on the brake.
Thanks
aknapp 11-16-2001, 06:21 PM The squeak, from what you are describing, sounds like it might be a warped rotor. In the past, I've definitely had the same sound, and resurfacing the rotors eliminated the squeak. I'd at least consider it as a possibility...
CBall22 11-16-2001, 06:47 PM Oddly, just as quick as it appeared, the sound disappeared? I took it to a shop last night and they thought it was the brakes, but hey, no more sound??? I plan on doing a brake upgrade anyways, but I guess just not as soon.
92nx2k 11-17-2001, 03:55 PM hey man. ive got 17's on my nx....17X7 with 204-40-z17 dunlops on em. Before i even dropped the car with the sportline springs, or before i replaced my struts, i noticed that the tires were damn close to rubbing the bottom of the strut tower. so this is a normal thing. And, they may very well rub slightly under hard ornering, but nothing serious, nothing to worry bout. i have never really had that problem. Dont get spacers! I have stressed this serveral times before. Ask an alignment or wheel guy if they reccommend spacers. They will tell you not to get them. I have been to many alignment and heel shops that wouldnt even align them with spacers on.

The reason I said this is because I been down that road twice. 195 50 15 40 offset mo problem. When I went to 205 50 15's the rears rubbed.
