Nothing is wrong with the factory Gti-r one...and considering they are only 32 a peice compared to 200-300 they want for a HKS metal head gasket, by the way the stopper type is supposed to be the best...but unless you own a supra you shouldnt worry about blowing a head gasket.

i have a ringged copper head gasket. but like suckit already said the stock gti-r head gasket can withstand alot of abuse. unless you plan on putting out alot of power, i wouldn't even bother with putting on another one.

A stock headgasket will be fine! I layed down 349 whp on a stock headgasket!

Hey jbanach77 someone told me something and i was wondering if you can confirm it...that the gti-r crank is different, its made out of forged steel which is superior to the bluebird and stock de crank which is forged out of something else? Just wondering since you opened it up too.

The material in which both cranks are made are exactly the same! The GTiR Crank has a larger bolt pattern where the Flywheel mounts!

yeah as louis said the only difference between the gti-r and bb crank are the flywheel bolts. mid 2xx to the wheels is fine for a stock head gasket. louis put out 350 and i did 424 to the wheels as well on a stock head gasket.

How does the GTi-R head gasket compare to a DE headgasket, are they the same in durability or should the DE consider something better?

i would think the gti-r head gasket would be more likely to withstand alot more than a de. as we all know the the gti-r's head gasket is made for a turbo application, but the de is a n/a set up. as for first hand knowledge, i wouldn't be the one to know the major differences.

yah guys i was wondering about this issue as well. So from what im seeing here the de gasket is ggof for about 17- 20psi depending on turbo size etc. yah?

My and Ryan both put over 390whp down on a stock SR20DE. I did 409, the new owner did 400 on 17's at 24.5psi of boost.

Ryans car has over 100K boosting since about 60K. My car had about 46K on it, and it's got close to 50k now with boost since about 39K.

No problems.

The stock headgasket is tough. The JP tuners like to say you have to "resleeve" the SR20 and do funky head gaskets for them to live but the reality has shown otherwise.

Um Jimmy you got any specs on that dyno pull? :)

What were you running for turbo, and what kind of boost. Thanks.

424whp is strong. I know what 409whp feels like...it's nuts.

I blew mine recently.. I think I ran lean, pressure rose and bye bye head gasket... air is getting in my coolant. So what should I consider in my search for a new headgasket (have to replace it anyways... might as well improve)

Also... I know on most cars the diameter of the gasket is larger than the actual cylindar (bore might be 86mm, while the gasket will be 89 or something)... my motor was bored 1mm over for VG30 pistons... do I use the stock size gasket still? I would assume so, but since I didn't build the engine I figure I better ask you!!!

Well, no response, so I went ahead and ordered a greddy 1.8mm gasket, they claim it's good up to an 87mm bore (which is thankfully right where I'm at with the VG30 pistons I believe)

jay,

no eip didn't want to put it online cause they knew that i was going all out with it and wanted to post the final numbers. i am running a 60-1 hi flow with a stage 5 wheel. rich, the owner did some reasearch on my flow charts and came up with some numbers. i got him drunk one night and he still wouldn't spill the beans except it is a 60-1 hi flow ball bearing turbo with a stage 5 wheel. yeah 424 is outta this world when it hits. i cant wait to see what it puts down after the jun head package and some other goodies.
