Not sure if this should be posted here or in Audio/Electronics, but I figured I would get more responses here.

Here's an interesting phenomenon. As I was driving home from San Francisco this evening (in the SE-R), I noticed that the radio would momentarily shut off (no display lights at all) when I step on the brakes. It would come back on after about 5 seconds and resume whatever it was playing. It also did this once when I turned on the headlights. I also notice a slight flicker of the headlights along with the radio turning off. I don't know what would cause this, but it only happened on that drive home. I drove somewhere else later on, and couldn't repeat the same effect. Any ideas anyone?

That has happened to me before and I couldnt figure out for the life of me what it could be until I stalled. Looked at my battery connection, the ground was loose. Tightened it up and everything was back to normal. Hope that helps.

I had the same problem and It was my fusible link going bad. The momentum of battery on braking would cause it to move just enough to cause the problem.

I had the same problem when my battery was relocated to the trunk. The ground wire was grounded poorly so I moved it back up front and the problem was solved.

that is EXACTLY what i had 2 weeks prior to my stock alternator taking a crap. get it fixed ASAP. I bet if you check the charge on the battery while its running, its low.

I checked the battery voltage this morning. With the car off, it measured at 12.3 volts. With the engine running and all accessories off, it fluctuates between 14.4 and 15.0 volts. So it seems that the alternator is charging the battery, and seems to be fine.

However, prior to checking the battery voltage, I tightened up the alternator belt a bit. I couldn't tell if it was too loose or not, but it seemed to have less tension than the powersteering/water pump belt. Prior to the drive home from SF, I did notice a slight whistling noise from the engine.

I should also mention that prior to driving this car on Friday, I had removed the A/C system, and installed a Koyo radiator (the car sat for a few weeks.)

I had the same problem when i relocated my battery from the trunk to under the hood. but check ur ground on ur battery. i had to run another ground wire from where it was grounded on the engine to the frame. and make sure ur battery posts are clean too. sometimes u dont realize little things like that can affect something.

I read this thread last night and i though about how much of a pain that would be. surely and strangly this morning it happend on my way to school. Every time I braked for what ever reason the radio would shut off for a second and my lights dim out. When I got back home I checked both of my belts and tightend them a bit and the problem was fixed.

Mine did something like that, except it would get louder when I pushed on the gas, I was like what the hell. Then when I would get off, it would turn down. I had no clue what was going on. Crazy.

i bet your belt was loose. my car did that for weeks before the alternator died. at first it did it once in awhile, than it did it everytime i hit the brakes.

I too had this problem. 5 minutes later, my car died on me right outside the school light. My alternator had finally bit the dust.

Oh... I guess I forgot to update. Drove the car 300+ miles to Streets of Willow Springs for a hotlapping event. Borrowed a Techtom MDM-100. Battery voltage never dropped below 13.5v while the car was running. No problems since the day I started this thread.
