after reading the article in the latest SCC i think this might be a project car that interests me. i have a few q's for the experts of this forum though.

1) approx how much is a jdm bb det?

2) where is a good internet site to source one?

3) what kind of total dollar figure would i be at for engine, installation (i probablly cant do it myself), and all the other goodies that doing this would have to include

4) would i be better off adding a turbo kit to the sr20de on a b13 se-r in terms of price and performance?

any answers would be greatly appreciated

These questions gets asked a lot. I'll try to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

1) I've heard from as low as $1500 to as high as $3500.

2) www.sr20development.com www.srswap.com www.heavythrottle.com www.unstable-hybrids.com

I think srswap and heavythrottle is the same site. There may be more sites but I just can't remember off the top of my head.

3) I got a quote for $5000 from SR20Development for my B14. I guess that's reasonable. Comes w/ FM intercooler, guages and some other stuff. It may be cheaper elsewhere but I would rather pay a little more and get the job done right the first time, plus, there's no other really respectable shop in Cali that I know of.

4) A turbo kit is a good choice and it will give you more HP. Turbo kits usually run about $3400+. It really depends on your power goals. For me, I'd rather get a whole new (acutally used) engine, and keep my stock as backup in case anything happens to the DET. Plus most parts are interchangable between the DE and Bluebird DET.

Hope this helps.

Is that quote for them to install it or all the parts to do it with?

I believe it is for everything. The engine, necessary accessories, FM IC, and labor.

Don't remind me about broken shift forks. my OE tranny died after 124k of hard driving. Lost 3 & 4th shift fork. then to top it off it locked up all 4 wheels :) but that tranny was crap when I got the car. I just finished it off, got a GVR4 tranny now :) I have a 1st gear that can go past 20mph lol
