I heard that the B13 front struts will fit B14, and it's 1" shorter than the B14 struts. Is it true? Does it need modification to fit?

where'd you hear this? lemme answer your question with another question, why would all manufacturers separate the 91-94 models from the 95+? i've never heard of B13 struts being used for a B14, but i'm not the total expert either.

oh, you do know there is a SE area you can post in, right? we need as many threads as we can get over there! ;)

Yes they fit and no they are not shorter and need no modification. They are exactly the same. I have front struts from a 98 SE on my 93 NX right now.

Yes they fit, and they increase travel by almost an inch. I have lowered the front of my 99 SE-L 2 1/2" and I never hit bump stops. I have been using then for 2 years and they requirer no modifations to install.

:o well, i am humbled MarC.

but i ask you, why are all the aftermarket listings for struts different for the B13 and B14?

Probably because most companies sell 4 struts at a time. The fronts match, but the backs dont, so they'll use 2 different part numbers.

If this is true, it's a great upgrade for B14.
But accroding to MarC, they have the same length...
Anybody can confirm that if the B13 stuts are shorter?

I also have put 99SE front struts on a B13 (91 SE-R). When I had the struts off the car I compared them before installing them. The front struts are the same. You will not gain travel as the lower spring perch is at the exact same height.

Issue beaten to DEATH in the past....

They ARE different but not much. And yes, the FIT fine and you gain some travel.

Best info for this is from and AGX (B13 vs B14) comparison in

http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29022&highlight=B13+front+shocks+B14+front+shocks

In a nutshell (since the pics are not visible in the post above):

B14 AGX top to bottom = 13.5 inches
B13 AGC top to bottom = 13.0 inches

BUT:

B14 AGX spring perch to bottom =
B13 AGX spring perch to bottom =
8 inches.

This means that (assuming that AGX are same dimensions as stock struts) with a standard spring you actually gain nothing. If on the other habd you use the struts to convert to coilovers AND you do not use the stock lower spring perch to mount the threaded coilover sheet but fabricate your own bottom then you actually gain 0.5 inches of travel.

That said there is nothing wrong in using B13 struts on a B14 unless the damping rates are different (as far as I know they are not).
