hey,
lately my '92 SE-R has developed a bit of a stumble at around 1700 rpm. when i'm accelerating from a low engine speed at >50% throttle, right as it passes ~1700 rpm, an audible shudder briefly shakes the whole car.
it doesn't happen at other engine speeds, and it happens about half the time the above conditions occur.
anybody seen this before?
TIA

It is your EGR valve. Disconnect it and see what happens. Chances are it is opening too soon. I experienced that back in 93.

Hm, thanks Pretty White, I'll try it.
97SentraSER, here's what i found on SE-R.net:

when i had my 92 se-r, i had that same problem. when you took off, it would accelerate normal up to around 1700-2000 rpm there would be a slight stumble, almost like the h.p. curve dipped or something, and then it would accelerate up from there perfect.
i took it in to my mechanic, he couldn't find nothing wrong. i finally solved the problem by having the air conditioning recharged! i know doesn't make a whole lot of sense. but the reason i got the idea to check along this avenue was that i read an article in the newspaper about a subuaru that had slight stumbling problem at low rpms, and that's how they fixed it.
?? worth a try i guess, maybe after you check the egr first.

I'll chime in, too, that my money is on the EGR. My '93 did the exact same thing at about the 80k mark.
Which is why my EGR is no more :D

yep another vote here for the EGR. disconnect it plug the hose and take it for a ride.

I believe you installed the JDM Intake manifold right?
I am tooling on the thought of using the JDM intake manifold on my car. Any thoughts?

Darren;
No, not yet. I just blocked off the EGR on my US intake. Now that my nitrous setup is AGAIN for sale, I may never get to install the JDM intake manny that's in my basement, waiting.
Once the nitrous is sold, then yes, I'll install the JDM intake upper.

I've got the JDM intake manifold on my NX. With the EGR and AIV pipes just sitting there. I'm waiting for the plugs for the exhaust manifold. I just didn't want to buy a block off plate for the EGR when I had a perfectly good manifold from my JDM motor without the opening for the EGR.

I have a 10:1 motor with a US manifold. Besides the EGR what is the difference? They both look the same size. I know the ports are the same size? So what is the advantage of not using the EGR? I am sure the HP is minimal.

Preety White, the j-spec intake manifold is beefer than the US model. I think my boy at the green acres meet was trying to tell you that. When I put the 2 up next to each other the jdm manifold looked bigger, and when combined with the primera motor you seem to get more pull on top cause of the extra air that is coming in.Just my .02.
