Hi everyone! I've been lookin around for an se-r or an NX2000.

Finally found one. Details below (Plus I Have a question about the clutch)

1992, Aztec Red classic SE-R with 147k on the clock. Original everything, nothing modified except stereo (which incidentally doesn't work. Wire must be crossed somewhere, whatever though).

Price 1400. Reasonable? I think maybe? The car is VERY clean. Only ONE ding from a small peice of hail on the trunk. The bumper has a bit of oxidation and the clearcoat faded. I'm gonna re-clearcoat but thats easy enough.

The problem however, is the engine-bay and the clutch.

The engine looks pretty grimy (but the owners are VERY meticulous, I guess they never cared to clean the bay). Right under where the valve-cover gasket is, the engine is grimy and such. Is this common on B13's? I had a 94 G20 and it was never this dirty.. Theres a bit of oil around there. But the car ran fine with no leaks.

Also, the clutch is very iffy (its STOCK!! and at 147k!! Believe it or not) - The first half of the pedal travel is NOTHING. The last half is where it engages, and its a little tough when engaging. Doesn't slip at high RPM, but feels like it doesn't want to bite too hard when starting from a stop. I'm guessing the clutch-cable needs to be adjusted, or the clutch just replaced? What do you all think? 1400?

-thanks in advance!

$1400 is a good deal. New clutch and cable, replace the rocker cover gasket, degrease the engine bay, replace spark plugs, cap, rotor and you off!

Err.. plugs I get. Cap, rotor = ? This lingo i dunno :p

Yeah. Brakes will need to be replaced, but I plan to upgrade to NX2k brakes up front anyway.

Don't suppose anyone has the unlimited carfax they can carfax for me?

PM me for vin =]

HE is talking about the Distributor cap, and what the cap goes on and the rotor is in that. He is pretty much saying. Get a tune-up if you buy the car.

Carfax IMO is worthless. My mother car was in two major accidents and it never showed up on the report even a year later.
Just take the car for a drive, and I don't mean around the corner. take it on the highway if you can listen for any strange noise that you can pick up.
Rust, Hanging doors, Leaky sun roof (if the car came with one) How bad the paint is faded if at all.
it's not a bad price I think. But if your not doing the Mech work yourself parts and labor is going to add up.
I've seen a couple of NX upgrade for sale on this forum, so far so jump on em.

Good luck and hope this helped.

Ah yes, the infamous tune-up. Of course! I want to keep this for another 2 years at LEAST and it's gotta get me everywhere (College student).

Planned upgrades are mostly tranny upgrades (clutch, flywheel).

Probably suspension after that. I'm not planning to upgrade the suspension or the exhaust/intake side until after winter-time here in Cali (rust is hell in snow). (Suspension will be purchased but not put in for a while :p)

Addendum:

Drove it around the "corner" a few times. Really nice feel to it. No 5th gear pop-out either.

take it for a real drive. trust me. My car has a bad rear wheel bearing, you would never hear it going around the corner only if you was doing some good speed.. take it fo ra real spin.

5th gear *will* eventually go. Plan for it. I did all the right things: Redline MT-90, motor mounts, *NEVER* rested my hand on the shift knob. Still, mine went.

$1400 is a pretty good price for a stock one. I picked up a daily driver SE-R last year for $2K with a bunch of go-fast stuff (seller was, shall we say, motivated ;) )

When modding suspension, budget for some shotened shocks. Suspension travel is severly limited on these cars. I'll be calling Steve (SR20VE) this winter for some of his, as I have Tokiko springs on *busted* Tokiko shocks.

15" wheels look very good on a B13 Sentra. Resist the temptation to go larger.

yep

big brake upgrade, new wheels, and other stuff planned for this badboy

i took it around for a "real" spin. Took some pretty fast corners, nice. Nothing bad yet.

Clutches will last a long time on these cars. I had one SE-R with what appeared to be original clutch, and 197k on the clock. As long as the engine mounts aren't dogged out, and driven like that for extended periods. Unfortunately this is something a lot of people tend to do.

Sounds like you may be able to get away with just a cable replacement for now. Sometimes you gotta fuss with, and rehab. EGR, vacuum lines, and other stuff to re-claim some low end grunt. That may be why you feel the clutch isn't biting good off the line.

Lol! Maybe I can get away with the cable-readjustment.

I'll get pics up of it tonight! Gonna pick it up in an hour!!

Big brakes are not necessary to stop well, unless you plan to take it to the race track. Fresh fluid, lines, rotors, Axxis Ultimates for the OE system and your car *will* stop. Right damn now...

Im at 209k on the stock clutch. Bought it from the original owner and he said it really was the stock clutch. Also 5th gear pop out WAS fixed, how many people have had it happen again AFTER fixing it?

Picked it up today! Clean as can be (except bumper oxidation..nothing another coat of clearcoat wont fix)

Pix will be up once its sunny here in Berkeley again..

Larry (Low612) saw it today. Helped me adjusted clutch cable, and picked up GC's with KYB's, and his clutch setup! Woo.

Very cool. I am going to throw a new suspension in on Wednesday or Thursday. I have AGX's and a set of Gen. 1 hyperco's. Can't wait.
