A couple of you may now me (very few). I was at the Kansas Dyno day with the Probe. I have seen the light and would like some information about swapping a SR20DET into a 95+ 240sx. I would like to now if the engine pretty much drops in or will I need lots of extra stuff(money). Also I would like approx. how long the swap will take. I have heard that when I get the DET I should put in all new seals and rod bearing, Is this true?. With the DET in a 200sx there are a bunch of stuff that has to be transfered from the DE to the DET. Is this the same for the KA to the DET. I would also like to here how much some of you have spent on the sawp, so I can get a idea on the cost.

Thanks in advance,
Marcus

Yes it drops right in (no extreme mods needed)
and Yes, youll need money, but not too much.

Its recomended but not necessary, my friend didnt change his and its been running fine for almost 2 years. (honestly though I would change them just for peace of mind)

No, there is very little that you have to swap over, just a couple sensors, the AC compressor, and the alternator (dont quote me though). That is unless your going to use the KA24DE's ecu, then youll need a few extra parts, and youll have to get the ECU reprogrammed by JWT.

Im not sure how much it will cost, but right now my neighbor has spent $1009 for the Blitz intercooler kit, $632 for the Apex-i GT spec exhaust, and then Im sure the engine is going to run about $2400 so thats $4000 and we still quite a few parts to buy. (you can build you car way cheaper than this though)

The mounts are the same. Money helps *** you need lots of extra's.

Unnecessary. Just make sure you buy your setup from a good source that run test's and comes with a comp. test done.

Almost nothing. You could use the KA compressor but only 2 of the bolts will line up with the bracket on the SR. I recommend finding a complete setup and use the SR compressor with some custom lines. That's what I did.

Don't use the JWT setup. It goes back to a distributor and does not run as well as stock. Why would you just throw away a system with coil packs?

SR20DET redtop setup 2500
Blitz LM series FMIC 900
Blitz LM series intake 120
Blitz FATT DC 100
Blitz BL boost guage 180
Trust Japan 3" DP 180
Apexi Dual N1 500
ACT 6 puck/HD PP 350
Custom Hot pipe 150

This is what I recommend for a good clean swap. Not necessarily the exact product(list is from my car) but use as a refrence as to what you will need. You can do this for less money. Just remember that you get what you pay for. OH and this list is approximate on the pricing and does not include any labor costs. The swap should take about a week to get running right max. Shortest I would say 2-3 days. depending on how prepared you are. Hope this helps. Good luck. :D

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I wil be able to buy the car and do the swap with in 4-5 months. I just started a new job so I am going to wait awhile. Would it be better to But a car with high miles so that the price will be better. I would think that the tranny would still be in good shape and all I would have to replace would be a new clutch for the DET

Man, I can not wait till I will be able to show the V8 people in my town what a true import can do. :) :) :D :) :D  By the way my brother has a 95 200sx SE-R so I now How awesome Nissan cars are, and how strong engines and tranny are. Man I can not wait!!!!!!!!

It took some time but i finally convinced him. Just playing. Just thought I'd post so some you guys could make the connection between probe boy (wanna be Nissan guy right now, hopefully he will be one) and HydroLock Kid (yeah..yeah one of the few guys who has hydolocked an SR20. It happens alright!) So there ya have it. I tried to get him to get a Sentra 1.6 with some crazy graphics, extreme body kit, and a fake intercooler, but he kept making this PSSSHHHHT PSSSHHHHT sound at me...what was he talking about? :D

You Kansas boys should know us

EDIT: Can't type

An older car will have some minor probs that may or may not come with it. Depends on how it was taken care of.

I am confused about this. Or maybe it's you that is confused. The motor setup will come with the SR tranny. The SR and KA bellhousings are not interchangeable. So you couldn't just bolt on the stock tranny to the SR. Just want to make sure that you are clear with this. :D

I was not aware that I had to use the DET tranny. I was thinking that it would work, because when swapped into a 200 it fits, but I guess that is because The engines are both SR's. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I take it that it bolts right up like the engine bolts tight up to the mounts. Thanks everyone for the info :D
