: Optimal cam gear settings for sr16ve cams
Serban 10-26-2004, 02:21 PM Does anyone have any solid numbers on what the best settings for JWT cam gears? I will be using these cam gears on my sr20ve with the sr16 cams. If anyone has any experience with them, please let me know, it makes it easier rather than having to adjust them each time until I find the best setting.
Thanks.
kesi24 10-26-2004, 02:56 PM JWT gears? you need cam gears that can do 1 deg at a time to gain power.2nd some people use +5-5 some -1-7 -6-3 it all depends on your car i say dyno tune it.If someone give you a setting it might not always gain power on your car.I say spend the money get some cam gears like tomei's toda's or any cam gears that can go 1 deg at a time.
kesi24 10-26-2004, 03:09 PM To answer your question its +5-5 deg.that seting did not work for me but that's what they say (jwt).
Andreas Miko 10-26-2004, 03:16 PM Serban we are going +5 In, -5 Ex. This will be the shot. The other cam gears might be better because they can be adj easier and in 1 degree dettings but if one of these bad boys slip on you tere goes your motor. I know of 3 guys with VE motors that have had this type of cam gear dmage thier motor.
kesi24 10-26-2004, 03:27 PM What dre says is correct if they slip you will blow up your motor but. Most camgears uses 1deg allen key type.its your choice.Save way is always better but i use the 1deg tomei's in my car.

+5 -5 aye?
I got my money on +5/+5
Serban did you dynoed your car with the cams and the cam gears because I installed some SR16VE cams and I have cam gears and I have them +5/-2.5 but my block have been decked I just want to know?

The cam gears are not installed yet, maybe next week. I have not dynoed the VE at all either, and when I do dyno, it will have quite a few mods already. I wish I could dyno before and after each mod, but I don't have that kind of money.
unlucky 11-14-2004, 04:46 AM What are the specs on the high-end lobes on the SR16 cams anyways?

Serban 12-09-2004, 11:00 AM Well, with the help of Mr. Miko, we put the cam gears on. Intake cam is advanced 5 degrees, exhaust retarted 5 degrees. The car definatly has some nice mid range pull, I have yet to to a nice top end run to see how it does. So far so good with these settings.

You need to dyno the car, right now. You have SR16 cams, right?
Serban 12-09-2004, 11:11 AM yes, sr16 cams.

What are the chances of valves hitting at high rpms with this setting? After hearing Serban's butt dyno results, I'm curious. I don't rev the motor that high all the time, but I don't want to hurt anything if I do.

Bjorn 12-09-2004, 03:38 PM great idea - I've though about that for a while. can't slip and lighter than normal types. you only really need +/- 5 deg. since you can skip a tooth btw (36 teeth/ 10 deg. per); but still, excellent job!
Yahnozha 12-09-2004, 04:00 PM Thanks, but unfortunately there is only room to do +/-4* on a cam gear in 1* increments. Ive got one that goes +/-8* in 2* increments as well, and a full retard -8* cam gear as well.
VVLtrain 12-09-2004, 06:17 PM Pat. Those look sweet! Nice job again!!! how much? I am ready to order!
PS you have one of those that I can put in my ear or nose? ;)

no, but ive got some cool stuff that can go else where....like my boot
price isnt set in stone yet, but expect to be around the $125-$140/set range

Stock cams have 48* of overlap.
SR16VE cams have 70* of overlap !!! that is alot
16ve cams +5in/-5ex will have 80* of overlap.
Is it me or does that seem like alot??

If the inlet is advanced and the exhaust is retarded then the overlap will be 60degrees.
