: Help with highbeams!
Son Of Skyline 11-25-2001, 05:19 PM Help me! My right highbeam doesn't work! Both lowbeam headlights work but when I switch it to highbeam the right headlamp just goes dead and the left one (driver side) is fine. I replaced the bulb but its the same thing. I can't find any fuses blown (unless I'm looking in the wrong spot). Anybody have any suggestions? I have to fix this because I got my car safety inspected and they won't pass me until I get it fixed (Which means I can't drive my car until its fixed!) TIA :)
92nx2k 11-25-2001, 07:58 PM could need a new harness on that side? those harnesses are kinda screwey. every once in a while my headlight will go out, nd ill have to jiggle it a little to get it to cut back on. just a thought, could be wrong.

It's not your harness that's bad but the 9004 plug. I had that problem with my Taurus. Changing the plugs did it.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot and let you guys know how it turns out :D
92nx2k 11-26-2001, 12:30 AM harness = 9004 plug.
the plug is what i was referring to, sorry for any confusion.
SENTRASER 11-26-2001, 08:15 PM check your ground too, see if thats all good, and check your plug that plugs the headlight wiring harness into the main wiring harness...ect...
Son Of Skyline 11-26-2001, 08:46 PM Help me!!! Now I'm really confused!
I replaced the passenger side headlight plug. Now my regular lowbeam works...but when I flip the highbeams, sometimes it works, and other times only one side (either side at random) highbeam works and I get this loud buzzing sound coming from in the dashboard ...and sometimes neither will work and I get the buzzing sound, and other times only the driver side works and there will be no buzzing noise (same as original symptom). Anybody have any ideas? Please :)
VaNXman 12-02-2001, 03:14 AM I had the same problem...with out the buzz. Only one highbeam worked, and sometimes none at all. I couldnt figure it out and finally took it to a shop. It wasnt very expensive, but I cant remember what they did. Sorry, I am not very helpful.
92nx2k 12-02-2001, 09:38 AM ok, another light-related problem:
ever since i got my suspension, it seems like, when i stop the car and turn it off, then come back and turn it back on, only one headlight will cut on. if i just jiggle the 9004 harness a little it comes back on but goes back out when i turn off the car, or sometimes even when im driving. any ideas?
Pretty White 12-02-2001, 09:45 AM Same problem (as above). Buy a new 9004 plug. Just cut and splice the wires. It is like $3.00 at any autoparts store. No biggie. Use female to female 16 guage connectors (I think). Wire crimp themn and it should be good for another 10 years.
92nx2k 12-02-2001, 05:05 PM female to female? how does that work?

The plug in the light bulb should be a male plug(which has prongs sticking out) so it would be female to male...IIRC
92nx2k 12-02-2001, 05:39 PM ahhhh as the story changes.....thanks sentraser.
SENTRASER 12-02-2001, 05:53 PM No problem...someone correct me if I'm wrong!! ;)
Pretty White 12-02-2001, 06:16 PM I should have said different. It is both female on both ends of the connector. You are going to use a wire cutter to cut off the plug. The new plug comes with wires on them. You are either going to cut the new socket wire down to the origional lenght or just bundle it up. Use the wirestripper to strip off some wire (I'll tell you an old trick that is ten times neater than a wire stripper, if you smoke or around someone that does use a cigarette lighter (the flame) on the ends of the wires. That way all you have to do is pull the wire cover ends off w/o difficulty.)
Then just slip the ends into the connector and crimp.
If you do not have a wire cutter (which is a 3 in 1 tool) use a razorblade, flame and pliers (to crimp the wires).
Good luck and hurry before you get a ticket for no headlight(s).
Trust me if you have to jiggle it it is the socket (plug).
Hey Mason,
My dad took his car to the dealership, and apparently each headlight has a resistor, and one needs replacing(I'll find out the actual part name, but I believe it's just a resistor).
$270 CDN for the part! We're going to see if we can get a non-OEM source for the part.

HOLY CRAP! $270!!! Thanks for the info spnx. Luckily though, my highbeams fixed themselves  long enough for me to pass my VI, so all is well for now! I do need to get it fixed though. Thanks again :)
