Hi all,

I'm new here. Just bought a 95 SER... best car I've ever owned.
Anyway, I live in Chicago and I'm looking for a good, serious garage that know the car and can handle modifications (body work, exhaust, etc.) Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I'd also like to say hello to any fellow SCCA members out there,

best,

marcus

Well, wish I had some good news for you. The only REALLY good shop that was fairly close was TAD motorsports in Lake Zurich IL. What sucks is that they stopped working on street cars since their really business is boming. For the most part, many shops can handle the simple bolt-ons, but if your looking for someone to do internal work and that sort of thing, I would be weary of the local tuner shops around that area. There are a few shops here in SOuthern WI. that are shaping up to be pretty damn good.

Hope to see you at an event next year!

Wes,

Thanks for the info... as a poor grad. student I won't be tweeking much internally anytime soon... unless I blow a clutch and decide to upgrade. I live in Oak Park and so far haven't seen any shops other than lube job and auto body establishments. My first tweeks are going to be suspension related, so I need to find a place that is used to aftermarket work.

BTW, checked out your site and like your 200... looks great... has me dreaming of a carbon hood now!

THeres no garage like your own garage. Im sure the board members will be able to answer questions, on any problems you run into. You will also get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
When i first bought this car i didnt know too much about it, but now I am installing a turbo kit, and i have done internal work (ie cams + clutch) and i love to work on my car now. Also if you run into a problem on the road you can probably fix it yourself. Well i will stop blabing now, im just saying try it yourself first before someone else touches your car.

Yeah,

In the past I did my own work... I'd prefer to always... the problem is that I live in an apartment (for the next couple of years while I'm in school) and I can't work on my car in the parking lot! I have to change my oil at night, so the landlord doesn't see me! Sheesh!

Can't wait to have my own garage again!

If you look in the midwest forum, there's a post about a "Geekout". It's basically a bunch of guys that get together and bring parts that they want installed. The good thing is that between the people that show up, nearly anything can be done. After all, if you don't have your own garage, someone here has one you can use.

BTW thanks for checking out my site.

Thanks Wes,

I'll check out the Midwest forum. BTW, who makes the carbon fiber hood you have? I've only seen the predator style hood for the 200sx... too much venting for my tastes.
