awesome write up..should be a sticky :biggthump :biggthump

Thanks. Andreas Miko told me of this set up, and i believe with a good clutch and 3" turbo back, my old car would have ran 12.3-12.5 @ 113-116mph. The car was crazy fast.

i don't understand the point of this if you have a good t28 to use......

A t28 will not fit on a BB manifold, so this is a cheaper way for BB people to upgrade to the T28's larger wheels without buying a new manifold, down pipe, intake pipe, etc.

humm interested so how does it compare to an actual T28 is the power compariable between the t28 and the hybrid T25/T28. Which one spools faster and has more pull and all the other questions that come up when doing such a comparison.

To be honest, i have no clue on how well a BB DET with T28.5 pulls. Mine pulled hard, alot harder than the 12.7 1/4 mile time showed. A true T28 will be a better option, but with the extra cost, the hybrid set up is good, With a boost controller, it doesnt have mush more lag than a t25. I never had the wastegate set by a pro, I just eyeballed it and used a boost controller to dial it in. If i would have had it set, it would probley spool more like a T25. It still spools fast and makes power to what I felt like was 7K+ rpms. It didnt fall off like the T25 did.

I no longer own the car.

if i have a manual boost controller set at 11 psi with a t25, and say i were to do this swap... would it still be set at 11 psi after everything is put back together? also, could the 370's handle 11 psi on this setup?

I am not sure at 3 bar, but at 4 par fuel pressure it would work for sure.

Did youhappen to the the amount of clearance allowed between the wheel and the compressor housing?

Did you have any other mods on your car that could possibly make it 12.7? I'm thinking of doing this so I save money. Ever get it dynoed to see how many WPH it was running? And one last question.. what did you run the 1/4 mile with the T25? Just want to see the difference.

so the only thing from the T25 you use is the compressor side (milled out) and the wastegate, I should do this this winter and have a little upgrade for spring

It had S3's. but the car was fast without them. I would have bet money the car would have went 12.3-12.4 in the 1/4 with a stiff enough clutch.

It had S3's, as well as 4Bar 370's with a miko bored maf.

ok now i am going this route, i have decided. Now do i need a perfectly good t28 or can i use one with busted seals?

Also where do i send this to be done and how much am i looking at to complete this hybrid.

I don't think you really need a new T28, you could just rebuilt the one you have.

I second that

Its called reading. ;) If you know much, you would know that a T28 WILL NOT fit on a bluebird manifold. The hybrid T28 will. If you run a true T28 with GTIR manifold, you will need a new downpipe as well. This is a option to upgrade to a T28 without changing the manifold and downpipe and intercooler pipes.

this is true. It does not require a new T28. Any GTIR T28 will work, but you do not want to use one until its been rebuilt or is in good working condition.

I always thought it was bad to port out turbo housings due to the possibility to really screw up the turbo's effeincy.
