: Cardboard sunvisors
empower99 11-26-2004, 03:16 AM Possibly the second most annoying thing on my car (aside from the BEEEEEEEP! door buzzer) are the sunvisors; they literally feel like cardboard wrapped in cloth. There's no padding whatsoever and a part of it even feels bent. Is this just my car, or are all B13s like this?
Fred
ziegler2000 11-26-2004, 03:41 AM The padding on the back of the fabric has completely disintegrated. It's not unusual at all.
liupj 11-26-2004, 03:50 AM Actually, my sunvisors are ripped apart. They *ARE* cardboard wrapped in felt.
SE-Rican 11-26-2004, 07:27 AM Get them re-upholstered. ziegelr2000 is right. The material is like a felt type material but behind it there is a padding. Over time the padding wears down and basically desinigrates. The actual visor is made out of cardboard covered in material. Get the re-upholstered and one of your pet peeves will be delt with :D
My father owns a upholstery shop. I have reparied hundreds of sun visors and headliners.
b13magoo 11-26-2004, 10:43 AM this is my area of expetise..most foam rubber based material will break down in a year or 2 when ijts in the harsh environment such as a car...the material on these is thin. Im in the process of doing mine right now..and the whole interior
Shawn B 11-26-2004, 12:30 PM I had mine re-covered about 4 or 5 years ago, the cloth had just about disintegrated. Pulled them from the car (a mechanical challenge within my range of expertise  ) and dropped them off at a local shop. Yeah, it's cardboard.
Mine are re-disintegrating again! Time to get them re-done, and my hideous headliner at the same time. Then my interior will be lookin' pretty pimp.
Or, you could just get some B-14 wheels and forget about your visors...  ... ;) .
b13magoo 11-26-2004, 01:15 PM im going all black and royal blue alcantara..or suede whatever you would like to call it...ill post pics when its done...sometime after christmas i hope

LOL, I almost spat my drink all over my desk  Guess I'll have them recovered then, I know a shop locally that can do it cheap.
liupj 11-26-2004, 03:34 PM really? what shop?!
know any good (but "cheap") alignment shops? I have some serious toe-out on my wheels.. so serious its noticable by eye =\. Amazingly the car still drives straight without me on the wheel.
Shawn B 11-26-2004, 03:40 PM Glad you got a chuckle. Couldn't resist :D .
Seriously, when I got my visors done it was a five minute removal. I dropped them off, picked them up a couple days later. Here in Houston I think it was less than $40.00 out the door at a pretty good shop. And, little stuff like that in my interior bugs me too  .
My cars exterior on the other hand is pretty damn fugly.
ziegler2000 11-26-2004, 07:03 PM Possibly the second most annoying thing on my car (aside from the BEEEEEEEP! door buzzer)The buzzer sounds like a cheap toy runnin out of battery juice. They should make ring tones for door buzzers!

I forgot the name, but there's an upholstery shop by Almaden Expressway in San Jose. It's really close to Dynospot Racing, if you know where that is. They have cheap prices for this kind of stuff (it's not a high-end shop), so I'll give them a call and see how much they want to reupholster. If you want a cheap alignment, it's $40 over at Yip's Auto Center on Keyes/3rd in San Jose. It's kinda ghetto, but they have the new Hunter alignment machine so it's all good . It's kinda far from Berkeley, but if you're in the area it's a good deal. I have serious toe-out on my BMW after I swapped in M3 front struts. It's so bad that when I turn the steering wheel 90 degrees in either direction, it stays there and doesn't recenter. :eek2:

That sounds like a pretty good deal. Hope I can get for around the same price. My exterior is pretty fugly too with the faded clear and all, but most of your time is spent inside the car so it's the things like the visors that irritate me more. But I'll still take some B14 wheels and a repaint if they came my way ;).

Yeah, seriously! I'm trying to get a B14 chime for it so at least it sounds normal. One of my friends asked "What the hell is that?!" when she heard it. Guess she thought something was gonna explode.
enterthedragon1 12-01-2004, 03:36 PM yeah, that buzz is soooooooo annoying!

dont go for too cheap an alignment, you get what you pay for. also, toe will not really affect directional stability. it WILL, however, wear the sh!t out of your tires!
endlessmike 12-01-2004, 05:28 PM how do you get rid of the buzzer? i always leave my keys in the ignition, and i have no seatbelts, so that damn thing goes nuts. :eek2:
Peanuthead 12-01-2004, 06:15 PM If any wants to know I have a set of good grey sun visors from my race car. I don't really need them so out they go.
