: 94 G20 ecu in 98-99's
Xosis 12-03-2001, 09:47 PM I think this is mainly for Storm8800, but is this the only G20 ecu that will work? What about the 94 se-r, was that obdII with a 7500 limit?
Oh yeah, does it have to be a manual G20 or can it be an automatic?
Storm88000 12-03-2001, 11:38 PM No, OBDI will not work in a B14 which is OBDII. The 94 SE-R was OBDI.
You must find a 94-96, (possibly 97, not sure) G20 ECU. Preferably for a 5-speed but it does not matter. I have an automatic in mine, there is no difference except the idle fluctuates a bit but it is not really noticeable.
This is one of the best kept secrets and I cannot believe no one knows about it except for a few. :D
Storm88000 12-03-2001, 11:40 PM BTW, you WILL get a MIL light. Forgot to add that.
Xosis 12-04-2001, 12:58 AM Do you know where I can pick up a used one? It will be hard to find one in the yards around here.
NismoPC 12-04-2001, 08:17 AM You might want to try posting here:

or look in the classifieds at the above forum hosted by G20.net.
There are a lot of us G20 owners over there, and I am sure you could find someone with one to spare.

Can you tell us what codes are thrown?
eric96ser 12-04-2001, 01:00 PM I'm interested in the codes also. I found one for a good price, and if the codes are EGR and rear o2 related, then I'll get it. I think only the '98 & '99 cars will have MIL issues, but I could be wrong.

Will be checking that later today or tommorow. Been so busy banging 7500rpms haven't gotten a chance yet :D

I'm almost positive its the rear 02. The car is running fine and I pulled the plugs just in case and found nothing wrong, but you never know. Will pull the code soon.
jacen99SE 12-04-2001, 06:01 PM I'm interested in the egr related codes.
The rear O2 isn't important
Storm88000 12-04-2001, 07:55 PM Jacen, don't you already have a JWT ECU on your 98? Or am I mistaken.
jacen99SE 12-04-2001, 08:19 PM Yeah, I do. The only hard thing I did was install a 97 EGR solenoid valve and move some of the vacuum tubes around that are related to this valve. But I did have to pay for a 97 ECU to avoid the JWT core charge.
This is some good information that a lot of people can probably use, but I want to know if there are any drawbacks, and I was thinking about the EGR system when I asked about codes.

Well I'm on day 3 of the G20 ECU and no problems. Still have the MIL, still didn't get around to taking the time to pull the code. Car runs just like it did before, although it's a whole different beast past 7100rpms, and no speed governor.
I'll post here ASAP when I get it.
Xosis 12-04-2001, 08:30 PM As far as installation, is it any different that installing a 95-97 se-r ecu?

No it's exactly the same. Unbolt the stock ECU from the tray, undo the main bolt holding the harness (believe its 10mm) and just swap them, make sure you look at the indicator line near the bolt when putting the new ECU in, want to get it nice and snug.
Xosis 12-06-2001, 10:32 AM But, I can use this ecu as a core to send to JWT, since they don't take the 98-99 ecu's right? I just want to make sure. Thanks.
Storm88000 12-06-2001, 03:49 PM Yes you can do that as well.

TTT
Storm88000 12-12-2001, 03:01 PM :D i know i know....
brian 12-13-2001, 01:16 PM it will throw a egr code, unless you swap around a few vacume lines and disconnect a harness off of the map sensor (ya, kinda threw me off too)and will also throw a rear o2, but you can put in an older one w/ a new o2 nut and you will be fine w/ no codes.
