Old exhaust manifold vs New exhaust manifold

Old mani on it's own.

And... there were MORE cracks found after we pulled the old manifold out.

The downpipe that needs to be replaced.

And the resulting mess...

Now, for what the pics doesn't explain - the downpipe needs to be replaced - there flange and the pipe wasn't weld very well, resulting in exhaust leaks.

The exhaust system was only held on by two points (so THAT'S why it was rattling past a 1.5k RPMs!)

The turbine has some play.

Definately running rich, since there was fuel found in the exhaust system.

I have electrical problems on the day I drove it to the shop - the car didn't start. After jumping it, it died right after I turned on the headlights. Jumping the car again, and drove it to the shop (didn't let it idle - just kept the gas on to let the car rev a little higher to keep it alive). While driving, if I turn of the radiator fan (seperate switch for that - my fans are not temp controlled), the dash dims a bit, then goes back to normal. Turn off the fan, and it goes brighter for a split second (as if there was a surge). The SAFCII reports that I still have 14.5v going, so the alternator HAS to be supplying power...

It's been an adventure. Search for my old posts on this at www.b15sentra.net - my nick there is still naddie.

Who made that old manifold and downpipe?

Who made that old manifold and downpipe?

It was one of the original Forced Induction Racing manifolds.

FI-R has promised to fix the manifold, but do you think it's "fixable"?

Looks like a new manifold would be the best and safest bet. ;)

Yeah, the new protech manifold he got is really nice.

How about that down pipe!

Yeah...that Protech manifold looks pimp. :) My BB manifold works just fine. :D I wish Protech had a manifold that work specifically with my setup. I don't want to redo EVERYTHING. I just got my shit in! ;)

Yeah that thing is a POS manifold, damn.

I'm glad Protech could help you out man. They're always good to me!

It's getting there. :) I'm begining to see the light!

As for fixing it not a good idea, I agree - I was hoping it would look semi decent so I can sell it once it is fixed, but I think Trav will have to find a different way of honoring the warantee.

The DP... that was funny. :) Looks like someone just welded a straight pipe on the wastegate exhaust return!

Paul (the tech who is working on it) says probably the reason why there is some play in the turbine is because the oil line diameter is not large enough, and not enough oil was lubricating it, causing excess wear.

I'm still shocked that there were no clamp on the oil return line from the turbo! That's were all my oil was going (I originally thought it was burning oil). There are no visible leaks, so we can only guess it leaks once it is already moving (so I will never see it).

It may be an FI-R kit, but it wasn't installed there. *sigh*

Dude that shop in the photos is TITS, I would kill to have a shop like that. I'm sorry about your old manifold, we hope the new one brings you years of boosted nirvana.

That is by far the ugliest manifold I have evr seen.. whoever made that should be drug out and shot. The ProTech one obviously looks and will work faaaar better tahn the other chunk of metal. That shop is pretty damn nice, it appears to be very clean as well, a good sign of a quality shop-usually
