weird light problem...

alright well i have a 96 200sx se-r.. i just put a jdm motor in it and ever since then.. for some reason my ebrake and battery lights come on.. and the weird thing is that it only does it every once in a while and its totally random.. but for some reason they usually shut off after idling for about 5 mins.. (whether car is running temp yet or not) i cant figure it out they also start blinking sometimes.. both in the same sequence at same time

not i got the alternator out and replaced (all done in an IHOP parking lot) but now for some reason none of my guages or any electronics work till i rev the motor past 3k but then they are fine after that... like on initial start up i have to rev past 3k to get all my electronics then if i idle its fine till i shut the car off..

try disconnecting the batt. turn thre key on, and let it sit for a minute or two. thaat will blank out the ecu if done properly. then reccoent the batery and see what ya get. also u may want to runa test on output at idle , i know its a new alternator but from autozone as MOST parts places that means rebuilt , and all to frequently NOT done right , u could have a bad one. ( alternators and distributors are key components to stay away from at the "zone" ) good luck

well i found out my problem.. the voltage regulator in the alternator isnt working properly.. it doesnt kick on till about 2500 rpm.. untill 2500 rpm the alternator isnt charging at all.. so i need another new alternator.. (good thing i work at autozone.. gonna test the new one before i put it in.. haha)

Question.....is it possible to replace just the voltage regulator? I have the same issues and I'd much rather try to replace the regulator instead of the whole alternator.

I have a similar issue. My ebrake/battery lights come on only in a certain part of downtown Tampa. I replaced my alternator just over a year ago, so have no clue. It only stays on for a second or two, blinking once or twice. Weird.

Are you sure that the ALT is as tight as it could be? At one time my alt was acting up till I had a shop remount a little tighter and the problem was solved....
