If that fails, then pull the unit out and check the wires for power and turn-on voltage. If that's all good, then it's the head unit... it's 15 years old, man.
WOW doode that's SUPER RARE to find any CD anything in and Sentra 99 or older. CD is standard now 2000+ though back then, I did not have that in a fully equipped NX2000! A diagnostic shop will charge you what you paid for the car just to check it out. Diagnostics on electrical failures can go into the $300's quick. How many miles are on the car, has it been hit & fixed, rust anyplace, have the seats or other interior parts/panels been removed and reinstalled, did you jam into a pothole then the problem happened? These are questions I ask to pinpoint if a wire is correded or pinched against another part? Learn about your OEM system, check all wires and fuses, check fuses on the radio and amps, keep me posted on this Bro. -SE
naw man everything is completly stock. this is a rare unmolested clean se-r i bought. i found the problem on the cd the fuse was bad and fixed it, but now it wont play the cd's it takes them in but wont spin the cd anymore so i need to fix the motor on the cd. the car has 160K miles and just finished putting in a newer jdm engine on it and now runs like a champ. this car is 100% complete. and stock.
but the oem am/fm radio it works but has really low volume and the built in Equalizer wont work. so thats another problem. i just want to keep my car stock looking just like the way it went out the showroom floor back in its day.
hmm i didnt think the sentra's came with a CD option to me it looks aftermarket but hey im sure if someone had the money back then it was possible it might just be cheaper if you go out and bought one that looks similar.
The single CD player was an option in the B13 and B14s.
I would look on Ebay for a newer radio. If you get creative, you can use the same harness needed to add an aftermarket radio, and a B14 reverse harness, and use a newer radio. The Frontier and Altima came with a single DIN CD player. The reverse harness, is one that is exactly like the stock harness in the car. It's used to replace the stock one, when people cut the factory to install a radio. Most car sterio shops should carry it. I did the same thing to use a B14 radio in my B13.

I can understand wanting to keep it stock, but going aftermarket will give you a MUCH better radio for probably less than you could end up paying to keep this 15 year old radio working. They weren't great radios 15 years ago and they're not getting any better now.

prepare to get it stolen if you get a new one... it pays to keep the OEM...
Ask someone who has had his car broken into 9 times... here are a few that had to do with the stereo
-First time in Dayton, in my old '92 *** during Superbowl Sunday because I left face in destroyed dash, stole subs, all CD's, destroyed keyhole, pryed driver side door.
-Second Time, same car, father left face on Stereo in our Driveway, Destroyed dash again... in Beavercreek, Ohio
-Third time on Street in Cincinnati, threw brick through back window in protege, stole CD's change in change tray, radar detector, didn't take stereo because I had face...
-Another time in AMC parking lot in Newport KY, with protege, stereo face was in my pocket, broke driver side window, pryed glove box, didn't steal stereo, stole my dignity.
-Insert a few more break in's here...
-Last time, in protege, on street in Cincy... Broke Rear quarter window, destroyed window molding, stole all CD's, even all the burnt ones... rained, woke up happy that day... came back to car with everything wet... and the stereo stolen even though the face was in my room.
Lessons Learned?
-Got tired of aftermarket CD players, made me desert my favorite car in the world and sell it... HATE aftermarket players now, even though they are great... I can't upgrade my stereo system until I find a nice place to live and have a garage.
hmm well there are head units out ther ethat look OEM and ive even seen em also flip over so it looks like there is none in the car.... but if your heart is set on a OEM one best of luck for you!
I really don't hear much about CD decks getting stolen anymore; decent ones can be had for like $120-150, and even cheaper through ebay, forums, etc... unless you're running something really worth ripping off, like a high end flip out screen and 10,000 watts of sh!t in the trunk, I wouldn't worry too much about theft issues. But then, I don't know your area.
If the stock look and theft is an issue, I would pull the CD-player unit out, and install a MASK type (kenwood made one) CD deck in that space, and leave the tape deck in place. I had a similar setup in my Spec which was parked in downtown Detroit everyday for a whole year; no break-ins. To passers-by, it looked like a OEM POS unit and a blank plate below.
Another option if you're concerned about keeping the stock look: install a head unit in the glove box; just make sure it has a remote.
