good 12" subs?

i just went around with my friend listening to some subs. he has 2 12" Phoenix Gold subs in his explorer right now, but theyve been in there for a few years and one is blown now, so hes looking for new subs. hes looking to spend up to $400. he has a Phoenix Gold QX900.1d amp. he doesnt need a box or wires or anything bc he is just going to put the new subs in the old box. what kind of subs would you reccommend and where can you get them (what website?).

so again, friend wants 2 12'' subs for under $400, just the subs. what should he get/where should he order them from.

thanks guys,
burton

3000 watts, I don't think so. Its RMS value is 1000 watts. It is a great woofer though. Sounds very nice and gets somewhat loud. The X is a SQ woofer. The Type R is the louder sub and has decent SQ. It's kinda hard to suggest subs without knowing the box specs. What is a comp sub?

the box is not ported, its just a big carpeted rectangle box. not sure about the SQ, SQL, SPL. he just listens to rap really loud with the bass way up if that helps. ide say quality is more important to him than maximum volume, but not by a whole lot. thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

i have 2 12inch earthquakes that are in a sealed box right now and sounded amazing when they were in my car.
im getting rid of them cause it was just to much for me and i want to go a little smaller with 2 10 inchers.

so if your interested in the earthquakes pm me and i can get you pictures. and i only used them for about a month. i want 250 shipped for both subs.

OK, so your friend want a good sub. Go on ebay and get a Diamond audio sub. One of the best subs out there. I have one in my car is the quility is the best. All my friends who are serious about their music have them. They hit hard.

Kicker L7-- junk (unless your looking for super loud sloppy bass) I went from a L7 to a Diamond and I hear beats & tones in the songs I never heard before. All he needs is one 12 with a good amp.

With todays technolgy, having 2 subs in kinda a wastse. (unless you going for looks and extra weight)

Search among Cadance, Elemental Designs, Image Dynamics, Focal, Adire Audio, CDT, Dynaudio and others for the ones that fit price and needs.

My buddy with a donut shop can hook you up. He goes through a deep frying process that gives the pistons a crispy crust , then he either coats them with a low friction glaze, or a lubricatn absorbing powerder. Mmmmmmmmmmm... Pistons

ED is a great route, the new subs are nice. I like the Memphis and I really like the JL12W6V2's also. Speakers are more than just specs though, they all have different sounds and characteristics so you should go find one you like by listening to a few.

if you need JST the subs, just pick them up from www.onlinecarstereo.com YOu can buy anything there for DIRT, and if you spend over $100 on a single order, your shipping is free. I hope you find something you like man... I'd personally stick with something from Rockford myself.

X2, I am a fan of the JL subs though, good all around sub no matter what you listen to, but he listens to rap, so SQ is probably not a top priority (meaning its going to be loud and sloppy all the time anyway)

oh, and just because a sub says it will take 1000000000 watts on it, does not mean it will take it, if you have 125-150 clean, real rms watts on it, it will sound good and will be more than loud enough. Wattage is just a number thrown around by lower audio manufacturers to make their products look better to consumers looking for bang for the buck....

(ok, off my Diet Rockstar ramblings)
