aftermarket gauge install

I searched for a while but still couldnt find a thread specific enough to my needs, so here goes a few questions..

(Im installing a electrical Auto-Meter water temperature gauge since mine is all kinds of broken.)

-only 18 guage wire? Will different wire size create different resistance and make for innacurate readings?
(**also should it be a solid hookup wire or a braided speaker type wire?)

-What did you guys use for the 12v ignition source? can it be the same connection for the light and the guage?

-Finally, where did you place the sending unit? Would placing it in the inlet housing create turbulance and obstruction making for decreased coolant flow?

Thanks for your time and answers . Im just trying to install this correctly.

12V source can be used in your fuse box under the dash, and the temp sensor in the the termotstat (sp) housing and 18 gauge is fine.

Doesnt really matter there isnt much current going through the signal wire from the sending unit. However I would use the 16 gauge, as I dont really like 20 guage in a car, too fragile.
