i've installed the Pioneer unit in a couple of vehicles & have had no complaints! Also did a Panasonic with a Nav that worked well. What Head unit are you looking at?

i was looking at either the Pioneer DEH-P6900UB or the Alpine CDA-9885. id like to keep it at or around $300. ive had a few Pioneers and they have always been great. im just trying to find out which ipod interface is better. i have like 10,000 music files and i dont want to be fumbling around while im driving. anyone have experience with these head units or others?

I just ordered my new Pioneer head unit today (DEH-P4900IB). If you get a Pioneer, make SURE to get one that is compatible with the CD-i200 cable. Its the newest version with the iPod direct control.

I currently am running the 2006 DEH-6800MP and the CD-IB100II adapter and the lag between the iPod and the head unit is unbearable to me. It is nowhere NEAR as fast as the iPod is capable of, in terms of scrolling through your lists.

It doesn't appear you have too many choices YET with Pioneer. However, Alpine has had iPod direct control for a couple of years now, and scrolling through your lists with that seems to be just as fast as scrolling on the iPod itself. You may have more model choices that way.

I went with Pioneer because I've been using their head units since the early 90s, and they have never failed me.

Just get the DEH-4900iB or DEH-5900iB and you shouldn't have any lag problems. Believe me, don't even bother with the other Pioneers. That is why I just got one of the new Direct Control Pioneers.

Save some $$ and consider something less expensive if you don't have a high-end amp/sub/speaker setup.
