When I first started searching about this I thought it was going to be "really" hard. I heard things like having to take out the rear seats and a whole bunch of other stuff. Well, I found out that all those extra steps are for B13s.
Installing rear speakers in a B14 is so easy. It's easier than installing the front speakers.
Open the trunk. Look for four white plastic clips. Use some pliers and grip those together while pushing them up. The goal with the clips is to dislodge them so you can remove the gray cover in the back that hides the speakers. Once you get all four plastic clips dislodged go inside your car and to the back seats. FOLD down both back seats. Now is the time to remove the cover. The only problems I had removing the cover were the sides. The sides seem to be glued down and they are also underneath that black molding on the car. Use a flat head screwdriver or something similar to pry the back out. It should be obvious to you what you need to do. Watch out for those defroster clips. Once you get the cover off, you will see the speakers and the screws that hold them in. Unscrew the old speakers and install the new. Reinstall the cover. Press/bang on the cover to re-lock the white clips. You can even use your pliers again to pull them down to re-lock them. Check for rattles.
Time: 45 minutes start to finish
Difficulty: Very Easy
Can a complete n00b do it? Yes
Thanks for looking!

Ive found that for the screws close to the rear window it helps to use a philips bit with a 6mm (iirc) socket & rachet The rest of the screws are easily accesible with a small screwdriver. To eliminate rattles you can use a ring of thin cardbard to seat if you cheap like myself... or you can use dynomat like insulation. You can also stuff some paper underneath the rear tray if that rattles.
6-1/2" speakers fit well back there... no cutting involved... sounds great!

Ya, that last screw close to the window I used a long bit with a pair of pliers. I put the bit into the screw and then used the pliers to turn it.
pop the carpet piece off the top in back covering the speakers, but first u need to take off those panels that are holding the seatbelts it.than u jsut take eather a srew river or a socket,i forgot what they are and they come out.than the new ones, should go right it and plug the harness up.make sure u buy the adapter that clips on the stock clip for the speakers,do it th right way.and than ur done.and of there too big than u may need to cut from the bootom and drill new holes,if ur good at doing sh*t like that,or they mgiht even make a braket for em..but if u got a decent size that will fit right than u should have no problems...infintiy makes some good ones for that car..they mihgt be a lil big but make em fit..
^^^I thought so but i guess it depends on the framing of the speaker installed... because I had to cut a tiny bit to get aftermarket 6-1/2's to fit... But mine was a generic speaker... so meh?

Front and rear are actually officially 6.5S or 6.75 inches(same thing). It's the mounting depth you have to be worried about. Max mounting depth in the front is about 2.25 inches. Max mounting depth in the rear I think is the same, maybe only 2 inches.
I put some Kenwood KFC-X170 6.75 speakers in my front doors. The mounting depth was 2.30 inches and it was a very tight fit. I had to use the supplied 6.5 adapter as a quasi-spacer to get it to fit.
Not a big fan of externally mounted speakers as shown above...
I pulled out the dremel tool and cut my own holes for my Kenwood 6x9's. Wasn't that difficult, actually, but I did have a problem with the magnets being too large, and snagging up with the trunk cross beams. (those little bars that criss cross). All I did is put a 5mm spacer, re-set them, and they're still hidden by the back vanity cover.
Oh, and one more thing, you have to actually cant them at like 30 degrees clockwise for the rear passenger side, and 30 degrees counter clockwise for the rear driver side, if you want them to remain hidden.
i cut into the cover and they clear the cross beams by less than an inch.
Must have HUGE magnets! Clean install, I'll give you that, but I won't mount mine like that simply because El Paso isn't the greatest place to live, when it comes to auto theft... (**Can we say Juarez, anyone?!)
**The statement above is not intended to be taken as a racial slur, so before you get offended, realize that it's easier for a car to be taken out of country and never be recovered, than it is to try and gut it in the US. (That, and I'm married to a sexy latin babe )
