Another option (if your output is selectable) is to run the components off the pre-amp and the subwoofer mono amp off the speaker-level inputs. A good solution that would get you good quality for the time being, but again for best results, you really should get a headunit with more pre-amp outputs.
x2.... it sucks but you can get a nice pioneer with them for less than 2 bills now.

Interesting. So a 2 channel amp for the components only requires the one pre-amp output that my HU has?

Sorry. I know these are newb audio questions but my experience with external amps is limted to the one bazooka tube that I am currently running.

Any amp only requires one pre out. So lets so you have 2 pre out, ok. You can use one to power a two channel amp for the subs. And use the other to power a 4 channel amp for your mids and highs.

But your only option right now is to use the one pre out for a 2 or 4 channel amp with you can use for just subs. Or use a 4 channel amp for all you mids and highs, or you could use a 4 channel to run the subs and the mids and highs.

I guess I'm just confused. Cause I was looking at an Eclipse 5 channel amp that had 50wattsX4 + 300watts for the sub and it had 3 pre-amp inputs. So I figured you'd need to have 3 pre-amp outputs to hook up to that amp.

Right. One preamp output is going to have a Left and Right on it. So, to have true 4channels, you need 2 preamp outputs, but you can run through only one output and have no fader for the 4 speakers, just balance.

Yeah If you have any questions let me know. There a few small mods that you will have to do. but really easy and it's not as bad as you think.

Here are some pics of my set up. The only thing you really have to make work is the trunk springs. I actually used 2 rubber bump stops. The OEM middle spring retainer and a few washers and a long I think 2" drywall screw to make this work. You have to do this so the magnet clears the springs when it opens. you can see it in the pics.

As for the speaker grill's. I got these http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=260-424

Note these are 8". I got 8" so I would have more room for cone travel. Worked perfect.
What kind of power are you running to the components and the 2 subs in the back? Just kind of curious what kind of power is needed to run something like you have set up.

He already mentioned it. See post #30. He is running his components with the HU.
