easiest place would likely be the plastic right behind the side mirrors. and cheap to replace if need be.

Yea, thought about that, but don't know how much room (depth) I have to play w/.
if you want a flush mounted look you can use a piece of PVC pipe big enough to press the tweeter into. glue the piece of pipe onto the plastic then strech fleese over it and glue it down. then cover it in fiberglass resin and sand smooth........paint.......cut out fleese from pvc pipe and press tweeter into the pipe.
nice location...expensive mistake if you f*ck up though...
nice job sentrixx!
Well honestly man, if you got a dremel. It's cake walk. All about the baby steps. But yeah... sure as fu*k would be. Trip to the junk yard or the forums.
You want them as close to the woofer as possible or it won't sound right.
You want the sound waves to be directed at your ears. The only way to do it is if you angle the tweeters up. If you can't, you have to mount them higher and adjust accordingly.
This is the same reason premium sound systems such as Bose or Inifinity have the factory tweets up at head-level.
Another problem with having tweeters mounted low and not angled upward is wave distortion. The sound wave for the highs are going to have to reflect to get to your ears, and in the process lose alot of their integrity and give you a very muffled sound. The crispness you expected to get is gone. Unlike bass, high frequencies lose energy faster since they require significantly less energy to be created. Just like how AM stations broadcast farther than FM. FM is higher frequency, and deteriorates faster. Same principle here.
If you can angle your tweeters, you can mount them anywhere you want. If you can't the best results will come from mounting them at head-level.

I did this in every car I've had and they sounded great! I tried the high tweet thing once because like you said they come like that stock in every car now, but it was way to harsh and they over shadowed the woofer.

Well this all depends on quality of a product. Some people forget that sometimes you get what you pay for.
I personally went with a nice q series of Rockford Fosgate mids and highs. I paid about 300 for the pair about 6 years ago where they were still good. Mind you they are not the best by all means but for the price and output I couldn't pass it up.
But to honest. The best set's I have heard are 3 way system's. Not meaning all 3 speakers mounted in one basket. But 3 different mids and highs with a 3 way crossover.
The rule of thumb is the tweeter should not be farther away than half the diameter of the mid bass woofer. for example, if you have a 6" in the door the tweeter should be withing 3" of that speaker.
and you do not want the tweeter pointing directly at you. Point the drivers side tweeter at the headrest on the passenger side and vice versa. What you really want to accomplish is an equal distance from any speaker from any seat. Most cars this will take modifications but you can get fairly close if the speaker is in the kick or the bottom front of the door.
