Great anti-theft idea!

okay, while lying in bed last night, I had this great idea pop into my head to protect your aftermarket, or even stock headunit!

Okay, first, get your radio and unscrew one of the chasis screws. Next, get some pipe strap, the metal kind with holes, like this:

If needed, use a washer, and attach one end of the strap to the headunit chasis. Install the until just as you would, and keep the strap behind it. Now, with the radio installed, find the strap behind the dash, and now locate a bolt/nut to attach the the other end of the strap to, out of sight. Best place is behind the dash itself, as level with the radio as possible. Pull the strap as tight as you can get it, and bolt it down. cut the excess off of the strap, and reinstall everything. This should greatly help in keeping your radio in your vehicle, and out of the hands of others.

the good installers use a method like that already. but between detachable faceplates coming mainstream yrs ago, and the cost cutting of places like best buy, its become less common thou.

Yup, the place i use to work at did this on almost all installs. It also helps prevent skipping.

Well I'm speaking from personal experience... I used to lock my glove compartment a while back. I didn't have anything in their besides my registration... well the person that broke in decided he wanted to find out for himself. Screwdriver, and prybar did the trick. Now instead of being out only a radio, I was out a dash too.

It's common sense. Stop trying to make people look stupid for common intuition.

Dont give them a reason to break in, hide things from plain view, get a good alarm properly installed and dont park in bad areas. Dont leave things of value on the seats and try to keep things as stock looking as possible. There are precautions you can take, i know you can only go so far but be as careful as possible.

yeah, its common sense to keep things out of view, but u cant possibly tell me that by adding the "haha" in his sentence that hes not thinking its funny to screw someones car up. if he's been the victim of a radio theft, i seriously doubt hed be laughing about it and the things people would do. and dont u think the"....." implies that even more?

I am an installer by trade & I can tell from seeing many cars with that type of "security" as well as razor blades on the back to the never popular S.D.M. (smoke defence machine which I think my shop has the remains of one still) that when they cant get what they came for they will take revenge on ANYTHING else in or outside of the car!! One guy about 5 yrs ago had a radio that cost $400 & he put a strap on the back & soldered thumbtacks to the back & bottom of the radio (bottom of the radio was in a pocket which could be popped out) & he thought it was safe. Well, within 6 months they tried to get it & when he returned, the radio was there...sort of... the theif took his own lug wrench & punched it through the radio!!! As well as his instrument cluster, his heat/ac controls dashboard, windsheild (drivers window was how they got inside in the first place) as well as blood all over! All they got away with was about 10 cd's & his insurance card! In the end last we heard he had $1900.00 + damage all for a $400.00 radio! & the last insult??/ they left a note saying "nevermind you can keep your radio" SO MY ADVICE IS TO MAKE THE AFTERMARKET RADIO RECESSED AS POSSIBILE & MAKE A FAKE CHEAP RADIO COVER IT!! you can do this by buying the cheapest ugilest radio you can get cut off the front glue on the knobs & or buttons & use a thin piece of plastic or cardboard to go in the cd/tape slot to hide your investment & hide ANYTHING that make them think differently IE: remote for radio cd's ect. this is my best advice to you!!.....good luck all!!! Paul

wtf? hes just giving his personal opinion. If you dont like it get the hell out, at least have an input thats related to the topic.

what bobby was saying, its true. Where my dad used to work, they left the cash register open so if a thief did really wanna take anything he wouldnt break it open and find nothing, he would just clearly see that the register is empty and hopefully take off.

^^^^ Hahahahahahahahaha!!! I like the first video...

Back when I was in high school, I had 2 10" Memphis subs in a ported box, running off 2 Rockford Fosgate P3001 amps. (Same as I have now) Someone broke into my car and took the time to unscrew my subs, take them out of the box, and stole ONE of my amps. They left one amp and the box. It was f*cked up. To this day I think it was somebody I know, even though they haven't resurfaced in another vehicle...
