Brake Light Wont Go Out

Hello Forum! This is my 1st post ever. I'm trying to figure out what might be my problem. I drive a 98 200sx and my brake lights will not go off. It stays on even after I turn the car off and all. I took the fuse out so it wouldn't stay on and drain my battery. I've tried replacing the brake pedal switch, which was a big pain, but to no avail. Anyone know what might be the problem? I'm desperate here! Thanks in advanced!

Make sure the plastic plug that presses on the brake switch is still there.

I checked and it isn't the rubber thing by the switch. The brake light just wont go off. It this a possible wiring problem?

Check your tail light harness in the trunk. Are you leaking water into your trunk?

I dont know what really to look for by the harnesses. They all looked fine. When I unplugged them the light went out. But the others would of course still be on. Im thinking it may be something up in the dash. My buddy seems to think it could be grounding out somewhere. Water has gotten into my trunk, but I dont recall there being any leaks there or anything.

Ok bear with me,i had a similar problem with my 92 xe,and it turned out to be the brake light bulbs themselves. They didn't stay on all the time, but the brake lights came on as soon as the park lights and headlights were switched on.If your bulbs are shorting the electrical circuit like mine were, you're golden.Bulbs are a cheap fix,try that first and let us know what happens.

So I went ahead and put new brake light bulbs in but still the same problem. Just to clarify things, and I dont know if this makes a difference, not only do the tail light brake lights stay on, but the spoiler brake light remains on as well. It's all 3. Thanks for all the input, and any additional input is greatly appreciated to.

So I got the problem fixed. I feel really stupid, but I took the car to a friends mechanic that specializes in electrical. Apparently there are 2 switches for the brake pedal. I changed the switched that was most difficult to get to. But the other switch was indeed missing that little rubber part. Simple fix. Only cost $40 and a little pride.
