Don't mess around with the imposter stuff. Cheap fuses mean you'll blow your hand off...
Or if you mean DynaMat sound suppressor mats, then I think the off brands are fine, just find some self stick stuff, it is easier to work with. Also, some of the spray-in stuff works well too.

I've tried the spray in stuff and it sucks... we stripped an interior interior, sprayed 4 coats of dynamat brand spray in stuff and it just wasn't impressive... spray is good for places you can't reach, but I'd recommend the sheets...
I think one of the knock-offs is b-quiet?

(the 91 cams thing is a JOKE. Get it? ahahaha).
Which carpet? In my G20 I just put it in the immediate vicinity of the speakers on the back deck but there is still a rattle under heavy bass so I'm going to pull it apart again and cover the entire deck. You would probably 2 sets of 2 sheets to do this (30 bucks total)
Anyone know what it is called in the buliding supply places?
I bought something about 9 years ago and tore the car apart and did every surface I could find to quiet down the road noise so I could actually hear the stereo. It worked great, but was a PITA to put down. This stuff had a fabric backing and was like tar underneath. You had to heat it with a hairdryer to get it sticky and pliable so it would adhere.
I saw some that looked like aluminum foil on one side somewhere posted, just haven't found it again yet.
I finally got to drive the NX yesterday, and man is a 3" exhaust LOUD! I could barely hear the radio with it turned up to distortion levels.

Simple--buy a higher power radio jk but DynaMat is hella expensive

Sweet.. that has to be cheap right? I was doing some snooping around, and the B-quiet "brown bread" looked to be good stuff.. but $140 for 70 feet is out of my price range!
Since that duct insulation is for inside use, I'm hoping it won't be asphalt based, the fumes will kill you off that stuff!
Correct... the duct insulation is not tar based, I would never use a tar-based sound deadening in my car... can you imagine the smell . It's 1/8" foam that is a sticky on one side and the foil-like material on the other.
You also have to relize that the weight savings is pretty good. I insulated the whole back of my car with 1 1/2 roles (only 7lb's) of the duct insulation. The sound deadening under the rear seat weighed in at 16lb's roughly.
The insulation also is easy to cut and forms to body paneling, ridges fairly easy...
no not that tar paper for under the shingles....that would be pointless. lol there was this stuff my dad used a few times it was like flashing on one side and sticky tar type stuf on the other you had to heat it up for it to stick......dont know if its stil avail but looks like you got it so ill shut up now
Yea, that is what I used the first time.. I think they actually called it flashing, it was like fabric on one side and tar on the other... had a few weeks of hardcore fumes, and months of low-level.
That is why I'm looking for a better (but still cheap) alternative this time.
