Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

Hi guys, i am getting a 3,2 code, which is for EGR which i have removed. I did some research and found how to get rid of this aswell as the correct resistor size, but which wire on the temperature sensor do i wire the resistor inline with? Do i wire a resistor betwen the plug and sensor on both wires or just one? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

why dont you get a Ohm meter and test the EGR sensor for the Ohms its reading....that way you will know what resistor to get.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

I know the pictures huge but I didn't feel like resizing it. This is how I wired in my EGR resistor:

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

I would wrap that with electrical tape or something just to make sure water doesn't get in there.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

What size resistor is that and did you just stick it in there? No soldering or anything? Thanks.

Just got to thinking about this...Won't the resistance of the sensor vary with increasing exhaust gas temps? I'm assuming hotter temp readings from the sensor would just make the EGR work more, but would it effect the ECU any causing the car to run richer or leaner to get those temps down? My EGR is unplugged so the EGR functioning more wouldn't matter but a rich or lean case from the wrong resistor size would matter to me.

Just in case you were wondering why I ask for a '93 B13, I have a highport B14 motor that was swapped in.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

Only low ports and CA emission cars have an EGR temp sensor.

See my edit above for my car. I was unknowingly sold a CA ECU for my non CA car. This has caused the CEL to come on because I don't have that temp sensor.

Oh ok. I had to use a resistor in my '91 when I was using a '94 ECU.

What size resistor and in doing this did it make your car run lean or rich?

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

I'm having a problem with this guys. I have my resistor wired in there just like you TomCat, but i keep getting a CEL...haven't checked the code but I am SURE it's for the EGR Temp Sensor. I'm running a 94 ECU in my NX and have a 100K-ohm resistor. I heard you have to have between 77-93K-ohms but I couldn't find one at RadioShack, so I just slapped in a 100K-ohm...I think this is why I'm getting a CEL. I thought a 100K-ohm would be okay, eric?

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

I know mine is a 100k ohm resistor by the colors in the picture, brown, black, yellow = 100k ohm resistor. Check your code and let us know for sure what code it is holding.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

I have 3-82K resistors in my hand. I just went back to the electrical engineering test lab in the back at work and grabbed them. They don't care. So 82K does exist. I'm interested to test one and see if my car runs any different.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

I may just wire up a 200 and a 175K ohm resistor and get 93K ohms and see if that behaves any differently than the 82.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

my CEL went off today on the way home. It's been doing that. WTF? I think I need a lower K-ohm resistor to get this to go away.

If you want those 82K ones let me know and I can send them to you if you can't find them locally.

Re: Wiring resistor for EGR Temp sensor

I just left mine plugged in and wedged between the intake runners on the engine. It hasn't thrown codes.

Don't you have to reset the ECU to get the CEL to go away? I would think it would go away and stay that way after you reset the ECU. Not really sure but that's what I thought I would have to do to mine to get the CEL to go away. I could only find a 100 kOhm resistor too. Maybe since that resistor is higher than the 92 kOhm that the sensor reads the ECU thinks it's still messed up so still throws the CEL. I would like to find out if one of those 82 kOhm resistors works and then see if I can find one of those if the 100 kOhm doesn't work for you.
