ecu question

I had heard from someone that there might be differance between an ecu from an automatic to one from a standard.

I don't see how it would have anything to do with the tranny but would anyone be able to confirm that for me?

I'm doing an det swap but the engine (and ecu) came with an auto and i'm using it with a standard transmission.

Re: ecu question

The transmissions are different on the cars and so are the tranny sensors I believe. I know on my ecu when I got it back from JWT said 5 speed on it. You don't want to send them out the ecu you got with the det motor though. You're supposed to send out your stock ecu from your current car to get it reprogrammed for all your specs. Hope that helps.

Re: ecu question

It should work fine. I've never gotten my hands on a SR20DET auto ecu, but the for the SR20DE ecus the only difference is that the auto ecu has a very very slightly less aggressive timing map for low rpms. Its only retarded a couple of points more and only below 3k.

Re: ecu question

Then honestly I would source a sr20 ecu because you're going to have to anyways unless you've already done the sr20 conversion on your car.... and in which case you should have the sr20 ecu in now as well in order to have accomplished this task. So just add that to your list of things you need because unless you're going to be running the stock det ecu and then some other form of engine management you're gonna need to do a decent amount of rewiring along with your swap when it comes time to do this. But definitely pick up the sr20 stock ecu and send that one out to get it reprogrammed.
