I've been looking at updating my audio setup for a while now. Due to the 6.75 front and rear sizes. I've noticed we are a bit limited on what we can buy. I'm definitely looking into the new Basslink for my trunk, just for a bit of bass nothing too extravagant. However, I'm looking for a nice Mid - rear , High - front type of setup. I'm really looking for clarity in sound, loudness isn't that important.
So i'm just wondering what you guys are running, and what you suggest.
ok I was checking around i can get those for about $65 per set. Do they sound crisp through lows, mids and highs even though they are just a 2-way? I was also looking at the Infinity Kappa 63.5i's which are a 3-way. Possibly put them upfront and the Polks in the rear? suggestions?
I run Infinity Reference 605CS Component Speakers in both the front and rear. They have a 6.5" Woffer/Cone and a 1" Silk Dome Tweeter. Although I know they no longer make this model; if I'm correct it was replaced by the Infinity Reference 6005CS.
Either way I love the way they sound. They have a good amount of bass, however I strongly recommed an amplifer with at least 60 watts of power RMS to each channel and if possible more. The highs can hurt the ears at times, but you can adjust the crossover of each speaker set if you want to lower the dB for the tweeter. The settings on the crossover are +3 or -3 and do make a noticable difference in what option you choose.
Infinity also had this set in a 5 1/2 version, although I never got to hear that model. Same specs just a smaller woffer/cone.
But for the money I spent, I have to say I'm very happy with what Infinity produced.

the polks do sound real nice. i worked at the good guys for about two years, and it seemed to be agreed upon throughout the store that polk audio speakers are a great bang for the buck ($65 a pair.... ehhem ehhem hint). the reason that i accually got them was two fold, first the name that brings the quality and second the fact that the db's fit in the front doors of my b13 (not all do). IMO the polk/infinity setup WILL sound great (even better if you throw a small 50-75 watt amp in with them), but i would put the infinity speakers in the rear. infinity speakers always seem to sound better to me from 3-4 feet away rather than the 2 feet that the sound would travel from your door to your ear.
wait did i say db's.... i think i have dx's (the ones that replaced the db's). and about a year/year and a half ago i saw that polk brought back the db's, damn them.
just a suggestion, if i had the money at the time i would have.... if you like polk and you like racecars, you should slap the two together and get yourself a setup of polk/momo speakers.
ohh, and one more thing. dont let the over sized 6.5" speakers throw you off, you can get mounting plates to put standard 6.5" speakers in too (prob loose a few cm of space though)
I run Adire Audio Koda components with LPG 26NA tweeter on a US Acoustics USX2100(100wrms per channel). I say the best bang for the buck setup would be DIY component set, the only hard part would be the crossover. Check out www.caraudioforum.com, I get all my audio knowledge from there.
on the 91, i run polk db component 6.5's and the rear are infinity reference coaxil 6.5. Im also running a polk 10sub. powered by a RF 800x2 amp and my fronts are powered by a PG octane amp 80 rms x 4
on the 94 my girl is running boston rally pro 6.5's component in front and coaxil 6.5 rear with anaudibahn a6004t amp 75x4 rms.
I never thought audiobahn was good until i got this amp for her let me tell you i think it honestly sounds better than the phoenix gold im running.

The classic feels left out cause of the attention the Evo is getting.
Although, I talk to it and let her know that she is still my number 1
I am currently running Eclipse full range speakers in mine. I got these around 2+ years ago. They sound really really good for just regular all around speakers. Better than most of my friends setups. Though, I can totaly vie for the JL Xr series. one of my friends got them for the fronts in his mustang, and then he has JL regular speakers in the rear. These are powered by a 4 channel JL amp. I can tell you this is the clearest system ive ever heard. I love it.
i have an Eclipse CD5444 ($450) running a pair of Polk/MOMO MMC6500 components ($380)...currently upgrading my amp (Alpine T320, for sale if anyone wants it, $175) to a LinearPower (or maybe Zapco), ~ 250x2 rms for the midranges, and a Zapco Reference 150 (50x2) for the tweeters. let me tell you, with full dampening (whole car dynamatted)...it sounds AMAZING...i cant wait till i get my Infinity Kappa 12 Perfect VQ's and my JBL BPX1100.1 hooked up

I didn't know you were running THAT MUCH power to your mids. You've gotta keep the gain low low low on that linear amp. I've never heard the Polk separates bi-amped before. What x-overs are you running with them? Did you notice improved sound quality going the bi-amped route? Curious.
BTW, working on getting my MB quart separates in the front and a set of MB coaxials or separates for the rear. I have the fronts, but want to dampen the doors prior to installation. Always work to be done.

theres an AMAZING difference in quality. gain is about 2/3rd's on the alpine. lol you didnt read the post, i want to UPGRADE to the LP. i got the zapco off ebay (finally. pretty cheap too, i might get a JL e2150 ***, ive heard great things about it, and i can get it dirt cheap. prob wont ***..oh well.)
im using the stock crossovers the polk's came with (i made a thread about these, i think its on here or nissanforums.com ( http://www.nissanforums.com/showthread.php?t=61153 ))
as of right now, the mids are getting about 180x2, the tweeter ~ 50x2...the setup sounds amazing. i cant wait till i can order my subs and sub amp (thats gonna be at least my next 2 checks D: which means i cant give jimmy the other half of my engine payment)...besides...i've seen polks handle well over 280w each and have no reliability problems. eventually, they're only gonna be getting about 200-220 watts each...so its not a problem, and DEFINATELY deaden your doors...totally.
i have matting on the outer skin, inside of the inner skin, and outside of the inner skin, let me tell you, getting the door panel back on was a WICKED bitch, but that, coupled with the DynaXorb's (yes...they really do make a difference)...the bass response is INSANE... ive honestly never heard a car system sound THIS good.
and, personally, i'd eliminate the rears entirely, espeically if you're running subs. the volume of air the subs move in the trunk can actually distort the rear speakers (unless you have well built, well sealed baflles around them)
well here is the list (with pics) i've collected. I've narrowed my speakers down to the Infinity Kappa 63.5i's and the Polk DB675's. You guys have praised both of them.
Thats it folks. Tell me what you guys think, look over the specs of the speakers and amps. I'm not a car audio guy at all. So if i'm off in left field let me know. I just want something that will be clear and crisp at all volumes.

funny you should mention that... in my first sentra ('90 b12 xe) i ended up cutting the woofer cone off the two ways in the rear to allow the subs to push air though the rear deck into the cab. i left the tweets in the rear to get a little bit of rear fill.
Cool. May try this in the future. I know with my home speakers, bi-wiring them made next to no difference in sound quality, but you always notice more details in music in the intimate surroundings of a car, so I was curious to know. Time to look for some
