I figured I would ask this question, which I'm sure a few guys on the board were wondering. I love to bump, but at the same time keep my weight as low as possible. Just a couple Q's...
Is having two Bazooka tubes a good setup?
Would it bump loud enough?
How light are they? Lighter than 2 12's in a MDF enclosure for sure!
What kind of setup would you guys recommend?
Thanks,
-Mike

Yea, I pretty much knew for sure thay were really light. I'm planning on having two 10's in the trunk with a N2O bottle in between, thats after eliminating the spare tire well and putting in a piece of sheet metal. I think that alone can shave a few pounds.
i had 2 bazooka tubes (10's) and they did hit hard considering they were only 10's, DEFINATELY not as heavy as my single vega124 sub in its' 2.0 cubic foot enclousure. the only actual heavy part is the sub itself, the enclosures are really light. i'd replace the subs too. i had polk audio gnx104 subs in them. sounded really good and was being pushed by a relatively small amp (250x1 @ 2 ohms).

enclosures are normally far heavier than the subs in them if they're built right. they NEED to be heavy to play bass the way it should be heard.
as far as bazooka tubes go, imo, they're garbage. you'd be MUCH better off with a single 12 in a sealed box. it'll hit harder, sound better, and wont take up much more room.
I used to be an audiophile, but after loosing most of my hearing because of it, I stopped. Now I just want a lil thump in my ride. I think I might go with one or two 10 inch L7's. We'll see.
yeah the only reason i got the 8 inch bazooka for a little thump.. because stock i cant hear any bass at all when i turn up the bass.. so i just got the bazooka so i can hear the little DUN hehe

why the hell would you get a strictly SPL sub if you "only want a little thump"
L5's and L7's can get LOUD, and can handle ALOT of power, but they dont sound that great compared to most other subs
you want a really nice setup? get a single Infinity Kappa 12 Perfect VQ ($425 retail, you can get it with a "cosmetic defect" on cardomain.com for $180 **you cant see the cosmetic defect(a rippled sticker on the motor) when the subs in a box**)
i have a pair of those 12's...they THUMP, they can very VERY loud, and if they're in a properly built box and you use the correct pole insert (the manual tells you which one to use depending on sealed/ported box volume)...and the SQ is absolutely UNREAL.
you most definately absolutely certainly for sure want to check out the infinity basslink. you can get one new off of ebay for about 200. Small, light, and sounds tight, clean, and excellent (as long as your sub is for you and not the people you are driving by on the sidewalk).
i thought we were talking about keeping weight down while adding some "bump in da trunk". the perfects are great, but im sure with a 1 cubic foot encloure and the 12" sub, it would weight in around 35lb-ish. a single 10" bazooka enclosure wights approx 10lbs; take a decent driver @ 10-15lbs and you get approx. 20-25lbs total, saving you about 10-15lbs.
bazooka is ported, so therefore sound quality will be poorer than in a sealed type enclosure because in a sealed enclosure, the range of frequencies than can be played are greater. Ported enclousures will play louder, but only a shorter range of frequencies can be played before distortion is audible, but a well designed combo of a ported enclosure and driver can rival the SQ of a sealed type...
another reason why the bazooka would be a better choice is wattage. a ported enclosure requires less wattage than a sealed type enclosure at the same volume. so if you have a relatively small amp, also, thereby saving more weight, it would benefit you more, plus smaller (wattage) amps are cheaper.
BTW, a 12" sub will play deeper than a 10"
again, the subject was keeping weight down.....and a bazooka tube is probably one of your lighter choices.
one bazooka will supply sufficient bass (i was suprised and pleased), but if you are wanting to be heard from 5 miles away, look elsewhere.
sound quality is another subject.
Guys, I'm not a hardcore weight reduction freak or anything, but I would like some bump without having a 150 pound box draggin my ass down. That's roughly .15 seconds worth of 1/4 mile time i can use.
Add a single sub in it's proper enclosure, juice it with some decent power and call it a day. It won't weigh that much and your sound quality will not suffer in any way. Remember that there are compromises that have to be made. And if you're that concerned about weight, keep it removeable for your drag strip runs, then put it in when you're cruising. If you feel it's dragging you down, ADD MORE POWER. Will take care of everything.
