NX2000 speaker sizes and suggestions

hey, does anyone know what the actual speaker sizes for the fronts and rears of a 1993 nx2000 are? i got 7" rears and 4x6 for the fronts. is that correct? also, can anyone give me suggestions on what type/brand of speakers are hot and bang for the buck. i just want to spend 200 max on all 4, fronts and rears.

stock is 5 1/4 front and rear.

I put 6.5" front and back, but it requires making a mounting angle ring for the fronts, and sawing out some metal from the rears.

It's been awhile since I've been in the speaker market, but I loved my infinity separates up front, infinity midbass drivers in the rear.

I had a 92, it had a big plastic thing with ah 5.25 mounted in it. You could cut it out and place a 4x6 in it if you wanted, but mine was definately factory 5.25. BTW, I bought it from the dealer as a demo, owned it since 93.

I bought a 93, same thing.. big plastic thing with a 5.25 in it. Maybe it matters what part of the country?? They were all made in Japan, so I'd think all would be the same for that stuff.

My 6.5"s ALMOST fit, but they are freakin huge.. a regular 6.5" fit in one of the ones I sold, I think getting some coax speakers you should be fine with 6.5"... just not with the infinity midbass drivers.... they are about 6-7" deep, so I had to cut out some of the metal support behind the speaker hole.

Just put rears in 93 NX2000 today, and the factory size was 5 1/4... my '91 NX1600 had the same front set up as Rob's(plastic piece with 5 1/4 in it) I was able to get 6 1/2 spks in front by just tossing the plastic thing.
I haven't taken the doors apart yet in the 93 yet ...wonder what I'll find?
I haven't heard many good 4x6's...got 6 1/2 coming

OK, so i took out my front speakes, and they are the oval 4 x 6's. i mounted audiobahn 5-1/4's by drilling new holes in the plastic peice that held the 4 x 6's. but the backs are weird. I got 5-1/4's and they were too small to mount in the holes, and then 6.5's and they would not fit. the holes line up, i believe, but the speaker would not fit through the metal bracket. Has anyone found some rear speakers that would fit right in, or do you have to cut the metal peice? If i cut that metal bracket, is there room to still leave a thin ring so the speaker will fit snug againest it all the way around? thanks
chris

Easy and effective ideas for nx

Got my 6.5 's in the front of the 93...Just get a generic 6.5 spacer ring ,you can buy them cheap at any car audio shop.Toss the 4x6 bracket aside.I used one of the original screws from the factory bracket to put all the way through the speaker and ring(sealed the speaker to the ring with silicone). You want to use the original screw hole in the door,in the lower corner. If you were looking at the passenger door speaker hole, you use the left one.Put that in loosely, couple threads, and you can swing the assembly up to center the speaker. Then ,take a 1 1/2 or 2" drywall screw or similar self-tapper to screw in the speaker with a drill. You only need to use the one directly across the from the factory one you put in earlier. When you swing the speaker up to th right spot, you have just enough metal to drill into. This makes it easy to do on the other door without measuring or anything!Tighten the drywall one first then the other until even and tight.Run a bead of silicone around the outside of the ring to seal the air gaps(there will be two big ones.)Don't overtighten, you could crush the plastic ring.

This will hold your speakers in great, and your door panel will be lined up perfect for the factory grills. The door panels are so tight that you will think it won't work...but it will...I've done it to 2 different nxs.If you haven't already, remove any plastic screws that (don't)hold your panels on around the edge.Put real screws in the inserts instead. If you work your way towards the speaker from the ends, you can put in all the screws. You have to put the whole door back together before you put the window cranks back on last.(the speaker pushes on the doorpanel a little,so if you try before the other screws are in,it'll pop off before you get the rest of the door done)

Hope this helps, sounds harder than it is,if you have common mechanical skills and a few tools,it's a piece of cake.
I've installed alot of car systems over the years and now I do custom home audio/video.The above is a easy and effective way to get good size speakers in the doors, and it looks factory...except tweeters if you put in separates(as I did)

...Also got one twelve, two amps,AND T-top storage with access to spare easily. This is also very simple idea, but very effective.
