120sqft of brown bread ready to go in(like dynamat extreme but better)
Elemental Designs 10o.44 (10" sub, nomex cone, handles 600wrms)
CDT Audio HF64 Braxials (6.5" component set)
CDT Audio Upstage system (crossfiring tweets up high to raise soundstage)
Butler Tube Driver 2150 (2x150 tube hybrid for mids & highs)
Butler Line Driver (balanced XLR connection + boost signal output to 10v)
And thats it for now. I need ideas on the headunit and the sub amp. So far the Alpine 9835 looks good, any other ideas? For the sub I'll prolly go with class d, otherwise I think it will kill the alternator with that much power. Im stripping the interior tomorrow and laying out the sound deadening on my next day off. I want to be pushin so tunes before christmas so help me out!
Headunit wise I wouldn't buy anything but a pioneer. Look for a refurbished one on ebay. I got mine for 300 refurbished, it sold at stores for 650, and I got a warranty. As for an amp, I am really happy with my hifonics, I'm not sure the ratings on wattage they have. I have the brutus 1500d hooked up to my elemental designs 15ae. It sounds amazing. You can find hifonics pretty cheap on ebay too
Love the tube drivers don't like their line drivers. Had a 1500 in my last system and it rocked the front stage. Other components are nice as well. I;d look at Eclipse given the rest of your components and for sub amp, doesn;t really matter now days with the clas D stuff.
why dont you like the line driver? The only ones I know of with balanced connections are the butlers, phoenix gold, and old soundstream. I got a really good deal on it, but dont have to use it if you have another suggestion. I've used pioneer before, from my experience they make basic systems sound much better but arnt much for hi-fi. I've never had fujitsu ten products before. There was only one shop in town that had em a couple years back...WAY overpriced, and now that shop is out of buisness anyway. Any specific model to look into?

well noise issues really. You need GOOD balanced cables and they will cost you an arm and a leg literally. We did a large system in a friends VW and I think all told he had $2500 worth of Kimber Kable connecting his butler line driver and x-overs. Other similar installs have had noise problems. I'd rather see you go with an audio control or linear power line driver. The other brand to consider for head units is McIntosh, if you can get your hands on an MX406 don't look back. I sold my Mac setup a while back and if I ever got back into car audio I wouldn't touch another HU. Well except for the MX4000 but that was discontinued.
McIntosh still makes decks? Butler is still around? Christ this takes me way back, back when I had Diamond Audio Hex Series 3 ways, and my friends all had Dyn Audio, ohh back in the days....

That's the combo. I had Mac, Butler, and Dyn.... Now I have changed to home audio and I have Dyn in the house.
Well, the interior is almost completely stripped now! I need to get a heat gun now and turn my little b13 into a rolling coffin! linear power...hard to find the old stuff but I'll start looking! Oh and I have a sweet hookup on ixos cables so im not worried about that. As for the deck, MX406??? I guess I could look for a 9255 (basiclly the same, clarion made both) and send the cd mechinisim in to repair for $50? I forgot about those things...wonder what I could find one on ebay for now. A couple years back they were only around $250. I would have gone with a 3-way dynaudio set or focal Ws, but Im keeping this as stealth as possible. One reason is that I want a sleeper car in every sense of the word. Outside of a new paint job (triple mercedes black), and some tint the car will look stock. Under the hood when Im done will be a bluebird/w a GT28RS strapped to it. But I want people to be blown away by both ends of the car, in performance and sound quality. I just dont want everyone to know about it and jack my $hit. The braxials have great off-axis response so it should be decent in the doors with enough brown bread and a d-flex pad behind it. The upstage kit is being flush mounted up top, then Im applying grey microfelt to the entire a-piller so it looks like there is nothing in them. Sub will go into the spare well, along with a lot of fiberglass mat. Any idea the volume on that by the way? Even the amp rack is going to be mounted TOWARD the back seat (5" gap). Makes it a bitch to tweak, but to theives it will look like an empty trunk. Thats the idea anyway. Thanks for the responses guys, brings back memories of previous systems for me too, not to mention some new ideas.

Now that is one hell of a stereo system. I do remember your write up of the kick panel build for your 200SX. I used to have my 5 1/4's and tweets in the kicks with 6 1/2's in the doors in my Corolla, Premier DEX P1-R and used to have an older Premier for the highs, was saving until I could afford a butler tube. I don't know anything of the quality these days (that was easily 6 years ago) and I'm not interested in spending the serious money on stereo stuff. All I remember is that if it's sold in a chain or larger retail store, stay the hell away from it, they don't sell high line anything. My friend's home stereo is all Dyn, including Facette towers (from what I remember VERY, VERY rare in America) center channel, and rear fills.
Wish I had seen this thing before I bought my amp. One of only 100 hand-made by ron sutherland (very, very hi-end home audio guy). This amp would retail in a store for around $4500!
Alpine head units are awesome man. There is no difference between the 9833 and the 9835 except for the OEL display. If the display is worth the extra 100, go for it but they are both incredible head units
