DEH-M990DSP might be going to the grave yard :(

the ole Heavy Weight Champion Pioneer DEH-M990DSP has about had it. But the only other unit I have is my Eclipse CD8053 that I took out of my '03 Maxima, and I think it would look silly in the Classic, but the Pioneer has seen better days, reception isn't always clear in FM, and AM hardly comes in at all on some days it works ok. (I acutally listen to AM Radio once in a while)

Also, a CD is stuck in the Pioneer (Alice in Chains - Dirt), but other than that she's great! Plus I have had it for about 9 years, and it's hard to let go.

the Eclipse CD8053 on the other hand, is obviously a better unit, but like I said, it would look silly in my Classic SE-R

looks great in my classic

Would you just fix the old Pioneer (because you love it and have had it for ages) or just install the Eclipse..keep in mind if I install the Eclipse, I have to install a new Amp, because my current amp is also 10 years old, I'd have to put the Diamond 4 channel that was in my Maxima in place of my old Alpine 3527S, which I also love, but it won't accept an 8V preamp signal...

no, get a new player, they make a big difference. My old stereo in my first car sucked, but when I just got a top of the line pioneer it sounded 100% better. Look around on ebay for a refurbed pioneer, but a new model refurb. I got mine for 1/2 the retail price, cause it was refurbed. Just a waste of $$ to rufurb a old cd player, just my .02

I already have a top of the line Eclipse that I bought earlier this year..

I know it would sound quite a bit better, I just like the way my Pioneer looks in my car, and I'm just wondering if I should get over the look of the early 90's CD player in the early 90's car, or if I should just go ahead and put the new age Eclipse in there and have a stereo system worth more than the car? which is kinda ghey...

seeing that you have the eclipse, you obviously know enough about audio so i'll just say move the eclipse into the car because i think it will look fine because the face is also has the silver "square" trim and kinda matches the boxy nature of the classic. but then it would be a little bothersome to then have to carry over the rest of the system from the maxima to the classic. but damn, the eclipse looks PERFECT in the maxima! WOW! having the pio fixed would cost close to $100. what else would you do with the eclipse...

i have the Alpine 9815 in my classic, and though not AS FLY as yours, I think it still looks very nice in my car. actually, i'm thinking about taking it out and putting it in my mom's lexus since i've only used the car for 5 months in the past 1.5yrs since i put in the alpine. i sometimes wonder if it was smart to buy a $500 headunit for a $1000 car. but it's sooo cool!

you know, i think i didn't make a very good argument to put the eclipse in... sorry

when you mentioned that the "silver "square" trim and kinda matches the boxy nature of the classic."

that was probably one of the things that has helped me move more towards putting it in..

Maybe I'll paint some of the trim work inside the classic aluminum...maybe I can put an aluminum sh*t knob on or something (though I just shelled out $50 for a brand new OE knob)...

I think what I dislike most about the Eclipse (and I never mentioned this in the post until now) is that I am so used to the Pioneer (and how it works) that the Eclipse seems foreign and difficult to use. It's more of a pain in the but to program, and the volume dial is a little more touchy..not good for trying to adjust settings while your driving..

now I'm thinking the clearance under the CD player isn't big enough for the face of the CD8053 to pop open when I swap discs..

damn, anyone have an Eclipse in their B13?

at least it was a good CD. we took my friend's faceplate apart, put some paper between the eject button and its contact, and stuck hanson in there. it was awesome...

just put the eclipse in, its a nice deck. who cares if it doesnt match the old skool look of the classic, sh*t.
