The vqman got into another "situation" thread..

Cliff Notes: Do not go to Coyote Ugly on 6th Street in Austin TX.

So we go into Coyote Ugly on 6th Street, (I've never seen the movie) I didn't know it was a bunch of girls dancing on top of the bar with their clothes on. (If I wanted to go watch girls dance, I'd go to a place where they perform in the buff.) And I wasn't looking for that Saturday Night anyway, I wanted to hit bars to talk to girls, not watch them...

So the crew I was with was ordering beer, and I ordered two, one for me and one for another guy (leaving names out to protect their reputation) and he wanted a Michelob Light. So the beers are $3 a peice, and he hands me $4. ($1 for a tip) I look in my wallet and see there is only $1.

Now I had some pocket change, but I only had about $1.40 something..so I didn't want to leave the waitress with only a 40 cent tip. So I broke out my check card. I figured I'd put $8 on it. $2 tip plus $6 for the beer.

The waitress tells me there is a $10 minimum on a VISA (check card)..

Now I don't want to stay at this place long enough to drink yet another beer. I'd rather just drink the one, and move on to the next bar because this place was kinda cheezy. So I break out the 5 ones and the 5 quarters and other misc. change I had in my pocket...enough to tip her a little and pay for our drinks.

Now she claims they don't take change. WTF???

So I tell her I don't want the beer, and that I will give her the $4 for the other guys beer, and to just give me my card back.

I had already taken one drink out of the beer, so she tells me I have to pay, but she won't take change.

She says they'll go ahead and only charge me $6.00 on my VISA check card. So she runs my card, and then she takes my friggin beer!!!

I said I didn't want it because I was trying to get out of paying for it..but now that I've paid for it, of course I want it.

So another waitress walks by, and I ask her to give it to me, and she does..I walk off.

About a minute later, the waitress that was giving me problems comes on the PA and announces in a condesending tone that you can't get refunds on your beer and that they don't accept change...I turn around to look at her, and she starts flipping me off with both hands in this eratic motion while one hand was going up, the other was going down...all wild, like she was really pissed off at me for trying to pay with change..

It's like look woman, don't talk condesnding to me like I'm some broke mofo who can't afford a beer without digging for change. my (now ex) wife and I pulled in about $120,000 last year.

Also I've been all over the country, and in about 8 different countries, and no bar has ever told me they need a $10 minimium on my credit card or that they don't accept change..

And no waitress has ever called me out on the PA system and then flipped me off.

It took a ton of discipline not to go on a rampage. I was pissed...but I just left. Never will I return to a Coyote Ugly bar..those women are really ugly under their hottie 22 year old bodies.

argh!

the $10 minimum charge is a pretty standard thing around here, it sucks, but the credit card company and the company that runs the card charges, after all that, the bar does not make any money. sh*tty yes because they are still making money off other people. I don't know why she called you out though, I would have gone to jail

I heard her say something, but I didn't know it was about you. That place sucked. After being in the sun all day, I didn't need any loud music to go with my headache. We have a CU bar in Nashville, and I think I'll save time by not going there. That place had nothing but sword fighting going on. (Stolen from Steve Rockwood).

I think that's why I go to the in-the-buff places (cough, Gold Club in Dallas, cough). It stays pretty much a cash basis.

You should have watched the movie first. Then her actions wouldnt have been such a shocker. As for the $10 minimum thing. We dont have that here unless your doing somthing like buying gas on your card...and thats only at a few places.

Most people dont carry cash on them anymore. If you have a $10 minimum for drinks then most likely im not going to drink, and the business ethics for that resteraunt/bar suck. So they probably arent making money like they could be... as oppose to if I could but one $4 beer on my card. $4 Tabs from alot of people? Or No tabs from the people who only wanted one beer or two beers?

it's pretty common over in gainesville... I actually think all of the clubs and bars do it.

Oh, I went to the coyote ugly last year when I was visiting some friends. Its so freakin loud in there that my friends and I couldn't stand it, and I'm already half deaf. I really don't know why they have the music so loud in there. I don't mind loud places but when you have to yell into someones ear 6" away, that's ridiculous.

It was so loud in that place, that the speakers were distorting.

Me, Big John, and Danny went to Coyote Ugly later that night and had an awesome time. We had to pay some random people to drive us back to the hotel b/c all the cabs were full. They drove a big old early 80's delta 88 boat with the velvet bench seats

$10 minimum is something I've seen since my parents owned a shop way back in the early 80s. My parents did it and they were ahead of their time

As for the bar, you have to go into the place with an understanding of the way the bar is. There is a bar here in NYC that is similar to that except patrons (girls only... I tried in a drunken stupor once and got the PA treatment) get up on the bar and dance and take their tops off. Anything from the really hot chick to the 60-year-old (ask Jim Schu) to the 250 lb girl gets up there. It's hit-or-miss with what you'll see on a given night. Anyway, this place is rude and down-and-dirty. You have to work to get on the bartenders' good side. I went once and got kicked out. It was funny. I went another time and got harassed like you wouldn't believe with the megaphone. I went another time (can you believe I went back all these times? That's just the way the place is... they yell at you and blow things out of proportion and make fun of you... it's part of the 'ambiance') and Ray K gave the bartender a killer tip (all he had was 20's and the bill came to exactly 20. He didn't want the PA treatment so he tipped her with another 20!!! We got free drinks and top notch service the rest of the night (about 6 hours) By the end, Ray was telling the bartender to make fun of some guy cause he looked goofy and she did! You just have to go in there expecting that, that's all

As for Matt O... was the olds 88 like Uncle Chuck's in Rochester with Lee hanging out the front window puking? Was it as much fun as Dallas in 2000? Hi, welcome to Texas

That is the whole point of Coyote Ugly. Chalk it up as a lesson learned. Any place called Coyote Ugly or if you are in NYC Hogs and Heffers this is how the bartenders are. Its part of the charm.

name a big city in the U.S. I've probably been there..I've been all over the country, and I've been in 8 different countries...and I don't come across one of these "charming" establishments until now? (I'm 30)

Well, I'd like to know all of these places so I can stay the hell away from them.

Hogs and Heffers in NYC was the original. Its what the Coyote Ugly movie is based off of. Once the movie came out all of these started popping up. I know there is one in Las Vegas and I'm sure most big cities now. They will most likely be called Coyote Ugly.

They are fun if you are into it. And if you coming there to expect it.

YES! It's part of the fun. Don't expect every single bar you go into to bend over backwards to your ever need... they all won't! This just happens to be one of them. Next time (and you should give it another shot... go in with an open mind or with someone who's been already - come to NYC and I'd be HAPPY to take you to HNH) just lay low and watch all of the other people get made fun of. Wild things happen in these types of places (first ever time I went two chicks cornered me in the women's room. Another time, two chicks flashed us their tits outside to get in front of us in line)

I'm coming back to NYC in August for a ex-Marine buddie's wedding..

It would be cool to hang out with some sr20 guys, but I don't want to go to a bar like that again...
