Datsun 180

does anyone know if it's possible to fit an sr20 in a 76 datto 180b without modifying or changing the rest of the drivetrain (clutch exception)?

Re: Datsun 180

Nope, you have to do some modification. As well as a 510

Re: Datsun 180

Your a Datsun guy and dont know what a 510 is??? WOW. OK. I beleive that with the 180b you'll have to reverse the cross member, and change the steering box. Your in Australia so you should go to OZdat.com. Its an Australian datsun site that sells all the sr20 install kits for Datsun. Have you ever thought of building the 1800cc motor and doing a duel mukuni or SU carb set up. I heard they use those for ralley. Anyways you'll probally want to go with a sr20 tranny so you'll have to get new mounts for that and maybe shorten the drive line.

Re: Datsun 180

Yeah sorry, I don't know, I've only had my datsun for 2 months. I've compression tested it and it is below normal, still within guidelines, but lower, and instead of redoing the rings and head gasket I was condidering the sr20, since there is a wrecked SSS at my local wrecker with 120 000km on the clock. I asked the guy how much he wanted for the engine and he said $1000, is that an alright price?

thanks for the ozdat link

Re: Datsun 180

Seems a little high, have you checked out like sr20development.com. They ship anywhere. And there prices are pretty reasonable. also E-bay is good for parts.

Re: Datsun 180

A Datsun 510 is the U.S. name for the Australian 1600 - everyone who is into cars in Aus knows what a 1600 is!

Is that a wrecked SSS Pulsar? In that case it's a FWD engine, you will need to source a RWD for your 180B won't you? The gearbox will not mount up to the FWD engine.

You can pick up used FWD sr20's on http://forum.pulsar.org.au for about $400....although it probably isn't suitable for your needs I guess.

Re: Datsun 180

yes, it is FWD, I assumed that I could attach the sr20 from the pulsar up to a 200sx gearbox or something, but if a FWD sr20 is not interchangeable with RWD gearboxes then there's no point there

Re: Datsun 180

Try engine importers for a RWD sr20, you con probably pick one up with a gearbox - sr20's from silvia's, 180sx or 200sx are all from the same s13/s14 chassis...
